Hi, i've seen many ppk and other 12.6 prohib rebarelled for restricted license owner, is there any place in canada that do this kind of stuff? (like buying a prohib, rebarelling and selling it?)

Thank you very much

actually, i would prefer .380 over .22 but i'm not picky :D as long as i can have a ppk (well depend on price, if it's the price of a new AR, i may wait....)

I belive its around $225 or so to rebarrel to .380

I think that Barry did my .380 for a little under that price, but it's a good estimate.

My pistol looks a little funny with the longer barrel sticking out, but on a positive note I get better groups with it now:)

And how exactly do you do it, you spot a prohib, ask him/pay him so he get it, he rebarrel it and send it to you?

thanks :)

Oops, if you're asking me, I have to admit I wasn't in your shoes when I went to Barry. We had a post '46 prohib that was my fathers, and since I didn't own a short barrel before the rules changed, I couldn't take possession of any of my Dad's post '46 shorties. So, we brought the gun to Barry and after a lot of paperwork issues and other delays, a year later I had the gun back in my hands.

As I understand, a PP. PPK or PPK/S in 22 or 380 is commanding aPREMIUM price right now, for the simple reason they can be converted to restricted.

Thats for you to figure out.

He wont pay for it or even have it transfered to him.

If you spot one for sale, you could offer to pay for it, arrange to have it sent out for the conversion then have it transfered to you once its complete...I have done this in the past.

Or put a WTB in the EE.

Unless there is a special circumstance, it may prove wiser to sell the prohibited handgun and re-purchase a restricted one.

Why? - if the prohibited handgun has any collector value it'll be destroyed no matter how good the work is done. So you've spent $300,.plus all the fooling around, to make your gun worth less money. There's a chance the work will not turn out to your expectations and you're stuck with a dog. Even if you figure the collector value is minimal and current value is not worth worrying about, in a few years this may change. Especially with P/R S&W. This may vary, depending on what make and model your gun is.

Well, i just have to hope to find someone who want to take some time (must be pretty long with all the paperwork) in the EE, thank you

I have done this myself as seller, the procedure is as follows;

1. Explain to the seller that you are restricted only but you want to purchase
his firearm and have it converted by Barry Jensen of Bits Of Pieces.
2. Pay for the firearm, seller then ships it to Barry for conversion.
3. Contact Barry to arrange for conversion.
4.When Barry has completed the work he contacts CFC about reclassification.
5.When he contacts you that the conversion and paperwork is done, notify seller to begin the transfer process.
6.When complete have Barry ship it to you.
