Prohib to restricted?

It isn't uncommon for revolver barrel lengths to be wrong - the nature of building a revolver is very different from a semi. The barrels were fitted until they were right - not with any precise measurement in mind. If the barrel fitted at .004" B/C Gap and crowned with one or two turns and it was properly timed, it didn't matter if it was 1/4 or 3/8ths "too long" - it was correct and within spec. Interestingly the specs for revolvers are quite loose - you can get a revolver that is within spec in every dimension for every part, but due to the tolerances of the design, won't fire.

The gun shops or gun smiths in your area will know of the local verifiers. Or in a pinch phone the 1-800 CFC number and ask.

I've never done this but I'm pretty sure it's a good guess on my part.....

If it turns out that the verifier confirms your measurement then BONUS! ! ! ! For your sake and just because I hate our gun law idiocy I hope this is the case.

I would also be insanely envious since for my own 66 I had to buy one which had been given the Pinnochio treatment to extend the barrel to make it Restricted..... :D

I've got a 4" Model 66 that's 105.1 or so to the cylinder face -- so it will be rounded up to 106. CFC says it's 102. I haven't had time to get it verified yet but it's still registered as prohibited. Worth measuring!

Measurement is from the forcing cone - about .004 from the cylinder face.

Sorry, no. To the cylinder face, between chambers, measured with the tremendously accurate rod provided by CFC to its verifiers. I usually take my calipers with me.

Down the barrel to the breech face from the muzzle of any firearm with a breech. To the cylinder face (somewhat inconsistent) of a firearm with a cylinder.

At least that's how verifiers in Alberta are taught.

Me and my friend called. Apparently, it is enough for CFC to send a picture of the gun with measuring tape besides the barrel and serial number visible...

First they will ask you to go see a verifier, he will fill out and send a form to CFC. Then CFC will call you and ask you to take a few pictures with an electronic caliper where we clearly see the numbers. They will study the pictures with a gun expert and if everything seems OK, they will change the classification of your gun and send you a new registration!
That's the way it was done with my request!
PS I do not think they will accept a picture with a measuring tape!

OK
