Hey Everyone,

I bought a 10/22 for my wife and she complains that the stock gun is a little heavy for her liking. If i spend any money on this thing i want it to look cool "tacticool" if i can.

Thoughts?

let her pack an M1 Garand for a day, she'll be happy to carry that little 10/22 around :p Other than replacing the factory barrel with a 12.5" Dlask sporter contour there isnt much weight to be shaved. Going tacticool will only up the weight significantly. What accessories does it have?

absolutly bone stock...we took it up north to put some rounds through but it was clear that it needed a little work. i was just wondering how much of a difference one of these tacticol comp stocks reduce the weight if any..

ATI Fiberforce perhaps.

Before you tacticool it, what does she think? Don't remove her from the equation or she'll know it's not really hers.;)

Now we're up to .04

I would look at a shorter barrel as well, although I don't know if that would lighten it up enough for her liking. As said above, I believe that most aftermarket stocks are as/heavier then factory. Someone had a thread on here a while back about a skeleton stock they made out of aluminum, maybe search and see if you can find that thread. All things considered, a stock 10/22 is one of the lighter rifles out there.

my local gunshop (jo brook firearms, brandon, mb) has a used rifle on the shelf that has a tactical solutions aluminum barrel on, it is very light, like scoped probably 4 pounds or so.

i would look at getting one of those tac sol barrels :)

wanstall's seems to carry new tac sol barrels

The Ruger im about to buy is the exact same cost of that barrel :)

I am too interested in featherweighting a Ruger as one of my projects. I'll follow this thread closely.

Carbine 10/22-RPF 1151 Black Synthetic Satin Black Alloy (5.00 LBS)
Tactical 10/22-FS 1261 Black Synthetic Standard (4.30 LBS)
Between those 2, i really have no idea why there is a 0.70 LBS difference, all i can see is the iron sight which must not make any kind of difference in weight
Takedown (4.67 LBS)

really close to the AR-7 Henry Survival (3.50 LBS) which let me beleave in getting a Tactical Ruger (non-bull-barrel)

Wanstall's imported a Tactical Solutions modified 10/22...that thing was light as a feather. It had a Hogue stock, aircraft aluminum barrel...you could barely tell you were holding something when that was in your hands. I'd bet it was 3lbs or less!

might want to message Gary there and see if he can tell you more about it?

I put a VQ carbon fiber bull barrel on mine and then put a boyd evolution stock on it. Without a scope It's probably 3-4lbs. Just guessing though. very light

For a woman I would think about length as well. I got mine with the 6 position adjustable ATI (folder) stock. I figured I could use it comfortably as well.
I would have to agree that better balance would make it "feel" lighter for her.
