project NP29 1911 diamond in the rough + bonus STI job

I'm not normally a two colour gun fan. But the subtle difference between the colour on the frame to the rest is very appealing. So not only can you do nice work but you've got an eye for what most consider as "tasteful".

It's also a good example of what can be done with basic hand tools and skill at their proper use. An example is the milling of the serrations on the top rail of the slide. Yes, it could have been done on a mill. But by the time a method for clamping was arranged and the slide clamped and machined I bet you were done with the file. It's pretty common to spend anywhere from 3 to 30 times longer setting up a mill for a cut than the time used for the actual cut.

YES!! This looks unreal! Awesome work!

You mentioned you tightened up the slide to frame fit, how did you go about doing it? I would like to do it to my norcs.

normal technique would be to squeeze the slide in a vice or jig for side to side play, then peen the rails down over sized spacers to tighten the vertical, then lap them together after lightly filing any material that flowed out while peening the rails

And once you get set up, the boss says "take that job out, this is a rush job......." so you get to do it again later !

I missed this one the first time 'round.

A big LOL from me on that one C&L ! ! ! ! And mostly because it's the simple truth. If only they knew how much it costs them in the long run when they constantly change their minds.
