Project Perazzi: A Legendary MX8 Looking for a New Home
We have a well-used but dependable vintage Perazzi MX8 Trap looking for a new home. Built around Perazzi’s proven competition design, this MX8 has seen many thousands of rounds over the years and is still ready for many more.
Proofed in 1969, this shotgun is a very early example of the legendary MX8 and represents an interesting piece of Perazzi history.
Over the years, this MX8 has received a number of updates and improvements. An adjustable comb was installed to provide greater versatility and allow the shooter to achieve a more personalized fit. The barrels were also sent to Briley, where thin-wall choke tubes were installed, the bottom barrel was ported, and the barrels were refinished and rejoined to the rib.
The original colour-case hardening remains strong and beautiful, providing a striking contrast to the Boss-style action on which the Perazzi is based.
One of the great advantages of the Perazzi design is its serviceability. For a qualified Perazzi technician, the MX8 is a straightforward shotgun to maintain and service, with many components designed to be readily replaced when required.
Most recently, the handguard was refitted to ensure a tight fit, and the top-lever spring was replaced.
The MX8 is approaching the point where it will benefit from a new locking block as soon as possible but is shootable for now as is. This is a straightforward service for a qualified Perazzi technician like Jakob Strasser and will bring the top lever back to its proper position and prepare the gun for many more rounds of service.
The shotgun also includes a Gracoil recoil-reduction stock, shown in the last photograph.
