Project "Scrap Metal"

just FYI dont expect it to fail a torture test, but I still expect you to do one! The ejection window mod works great and would go good with the gas tube mod. Check out cncwarrior.com for threading die starters for M14x1.0LH AK muzzle thread and M14x1.0RH VZ58 muzzle thread to use many different muzzle devices. Just do good work so it will be a nice rifle once its refinished.

what is this ejection window mod?

i know its been mentioned but remove the front sight and bayonet lug and cut the barrel to the legal minimum 18.5 inches keeping it non restricted then cut the bayonet lug off the sight base and reinstall the site base. recrown and thread the barrel for ak or cz 858 threaded muzzle breaks etc... maybe not replace the front sight and instead have a fake suppressor (can) from the gas block to the end of barrel install choat scope mount pistol grip folding stock and i wonder there is an AR mag well adapter for the vz 58 is it possible to mount one on an sks? 10 round ar pistol mag getting pricey now.... and armacoat all in flat black. jewel the bolt .

I havent found an adapter to fit a cz/vz mag or an ar mag to the sks, so i have plans to design and test one for each mag type. If they work out i may make a ####load of them.

I keep asking myself, why you want to scrap it after? If nothing else it will be like keeping your notes for further projects so you know exactly what and how you did when you are finished. At the very least E and E it afterward. There are tons of Bubba lovers out there.

Give me a week with that thing, and it would look like new. As others have said, it can be fully refinished. I always love a challenge, and quite frankly, surface rust and carbon are easy to remove. Good luck with whatever decision you make... just don't junk it.

I agree with hunterinthewoods, no torture needed. That will clean up great, wd40, 0000 steel wool, elbow grease. I'll bet all these Mosin Nagants that have arrived here lately looked worse than that before refurbishment. Seriously.

I skimmed the thread but I don't see any mention of why the rifle is in this condition.

Did someone bury her without proper preparation?

I intentionally didn't include why. It's a long story that I don't care to tell in entirety. Basically I sold it to someone who didn't take care of it. I adopted it in an effort to restore it, but being as these are soo cheap these days, and that I have always wanted to customize one of these and get creative with it I decided it was a good candidate.

I will only be taking it in for destruction if I get too carried away and it's no longer salvageable. I was under the belief that it was garbage, until replays saying that it can be recovered and cleaned up.
