Projectiles/Brass in plane checked luggage

Hi Everyone,

I travel to Alberta for work from time to time. It would be nice to pick up some reloading items with the low taxes in Alberta.

I was thinking that projectiles and brass would probably be ok in my checked luggage, since it's only metal after all, but I'm not 100% sure. Work always sends me on Air Canada flights, if that makes a difference.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it ok to put new packaged projectiles and brass in your checked luggage or does this send security and the airline nuclear?

Call the airlines and make sure you declare it before they search your luggage . It will more than likely be fine since you can bring a competition handgun on a plane as checked baggage.
 
No powder and no primers in the only thing. Brass and bullets aren't a problem, never declared them. Ammunition is a nother thing. I can't remember the last time I flew without brass and/or bullets in my checked baggage. Air Canada or Westjet
 
I had no problem with both brass and bullets on West Jet from Edmonton to Hamilton.
5% vs 13% in Ontario can add up. Besides the number of dealers and the volume of stock they have in Alberta far outways anything here.
 
Air Canada has a 11lb limit on live ammo in checked bags. I don't think empty brass would be a problem but I would declare it anyway so they don't mistake it for live rounds.
 
Bullets and brass are not an issue with checked bags on the plane. I found out the hard way they get real pissy about them in your carry on though. I have no idea why, like I asked the cop...."What in hell am I going to do, to harm anyone with a 200 gn piece of lead and copper"..........they took 'em anyway.
I just spent 2 hrs in Calgary WSS and I doubt you will find anything you will want to take home anyway, unless you shoot weirder stuff than me and that's very unlikely.............
 
I just travelled with west jet - gun case with two rifles plus approx 7 pounds ammo, plus a toolbox with some bullets. No problems. Check website of your airline and go early to check in as u may have to sign a statement and wait while they check your luggage on camera in your presence. Wouldn't expect any problems
 
I have flown within Canada several times with brass in checked bags, no problem.

But when I was returning from a successful wild boar / roe deer hunt in Germany a couple years ago, I was waiting in departures in Frankfurt when summoned on the loudspeaker, hauled into the depths of the security area of an adjoining terminal, and interviewed in turn by FIVE agents about why I had six empty 30-06 cartridge cases in my checked bag. Explained they were souvenirs from a successful hunt. Nobody liked the answer until they called in the head of security, and he laughed and said he'd like to come to Canada some day and hunt grizzly bears. He seemed perturbed that the other agents didn't just accept my explanation and that they didn't realize the cases obviously posed no threat. Then the other agents kinda grinned and waved me on. The whole thing was probably easily avoided by declaring the cases at check-in.
