ProMag M14 scope mount - any opinions?

Somewhere, maybe on CGN, I picked up the name ProMag for M14 scope mounts. A search indicates they are steel and resemble the ARMS mount, and US sellers are listing them for less than $75.00. Any two of those three conditions get my interest.

What I do want to learn is, does any one have experience with the ProMag M14 mount? First hand or links to user postings.

What I don't want to hear, is how I can't get an M14 part from the US or how the border is closed. I want to learn if this is a worthwhile alternative.
 
I got 2 of them from my friend....and had to send them both back....
these mounts didn`t have the dove tail part, they were out of specks :(
perhaps, ProMag ARMS-18 type mounts - are just a junk that left when they produced the real ARMS-18.....
visually absolutely the same, but no stamps or name on them.....
the top rail was out of specs as well.....rings were moving even if you tight them .....

IMHO - b... sh.... doesn`t worth any effort even to think about them :(
 
best bang for your buck..... arms 18 for under 200 at wolverine.

I've bought several different "cheaper" scope mounts for the m1a...... springfield clones, genuine springfields..... that UTG hunk o crap...... i had a promag..... thought it was o.k. and mine was all to proper specs...... I'm now ordering an arms 18 with throw lever rings, 192 for the mount, and 130 for the rings in canada.

A note on the effects of cheaper mounts..... There is literally tonnes of info you should LIVE by in the stickies... but... Here's one thing i noticed.
Due to the vibration transfer of the m14s through the mount and into the scope..... I've toasted 3 expensive scopes, 2 bushnell elites and a leopould, and thank god for warranties replacing them. The cross hairs were getting damaged. This all happened with ALUMINUM mounts.... and the promag, with attachement bolts, loc tited and torqued tight.

same scope...bushnell elite 3200 has been riding on my buddies m14s for 3 years , many hunting trips and probably 2000 rounds and it's still bang on reliable. It is mounted with an ARMS 18 and throw lever rings, figured I go that route as well.
 
It never hurts to ask. Try to justify the price of the better mounts by keeping in mind that they will have good resale value. I'm using a Smith, which I believe is their 2024, and its holding tight and was easy to install. It uses standard weaver rings, so I figured keep it all steel and used Burris Custom Signature Zee rings, around $60.00 a set.
 
So far, with limited shooting with it, I like my Pro Mag mount [ ARMS clone ]. I personally don't care that it doesn't come with a dovetail part to connect with the set screw ... if I want that dovetail, I'll make one, but until then, parts left out cost nothing and rarely break.

PS: that SUB-MOA group I passed around at the last Wet Coast 14 seminar was shot with a Pro Mag mount.

Like I said before, if you can afford it, save up for a scope mount that costs almost as much as your Chinee M-14. But if you can't afford it, the Promag is the best of the cheapies.

PS: there are TWO models of PROMAG M-14 mounts ... the one I like is the PM081A ==> basically an ARMS clone. I LIKE MINE ENOUGH THAT I AM GOING TO ORDER TWO MORE [ AT $ 59.99 us PLUS SHIPPING EACH ] rather than a new ARMS mount [ which admittedly IS better and is still my favorite mount, if cost is NOT an issue ].

I cringe at spending half the price of a rifle on a single component. I know there are many good reasons for spending that kind of money, but none of them have ever made complete sense. And it is not Weaver so I'll be paying extra for Picatinny based rings. Guess I'll keep my pennies for ammunition. Thanks anyways for the suggestion.
