promag mount on M305

The side bolt (12-32?) on my mount will just *not* thread into the receiver on my Norinco. Does the M305 have an other than 12-32 thread? Is there a trick I just have not found? It seems the bolt is just a hair too large for the thread in the receiver.

The standard practice with promag mounts is to ditch the supplied side bolt and replace it with a genuine ARMS18 side bolt. You can order it direct from ARMS.
 
Didn't have any issue with the promag on my 2009 M305...not sure why after reading M14doc's reply...makes me think the threading should have been different. But I'm not complaining...
 
The promag side bolt should be the standard m14 side bolt thread. Reason many guys swap em out for arms18 bolts is that the arms is a properly heated treated unit with correct dimensions. In short, the supplied promag bolt is easier to strip.
I also use the arms 18 bolt when fitting up UTG handguard rails ;)
 
Promag makes at least 3 M1A mounts. All three use the charger bridge dovetail and side bolt mounting method.
2 of these mounts are ARMS 18 clones, made from steel. The mount that has been around a few years is the standard arms 18 style and recently promag released a clone of the original arms 18 "swan" , wgich has the mid section of rail removed. The downside to these mounts is the hardness quality of their side bolt.

For the money, they are a well made mount and I've had no issues installing the ones I've handled, other than the side bolts ;)
 
Is it possible to get a bolt from Home Depot? would be a lot more convenient and cheaper. If so, what's the bolt size and thread? And grade...

If not possible, anyone know if Brownells sells them?
 
Something from HD or a hardware store might fit but it will be a low grade of steel. Maybe an industrial supply like S&B Simpson or Fastenal if you're stuck but try to get the correct part of you can.
 
There's not too much special about bolt technology.

As M14Doctor said, ARMS bolts are the common solution.

On the other hand, I wouldn't balk at the idea of going to an industrial supply store or motorsport shop and getting some GR8 bolts.
 
Arms sells the for around 10 bucks and ships to canada. Last time I needed 2 , ordered 10 and within a couple weeks the left overs were gone to fellow cgners. Moral of the story, if yer ordering 1 , may as well order more as there's lots of guys here who will snap em up ;)

I did see someone selling 2 of them on the EE, most likely gone by now that was a couple hours ago :D
