Hi --
I have 2 SKS's and a Norinco M305, and all three of them have chrome-lined barrels. I mostly shoot Norinco ammo (non-corrosive), so it is either steel cased or copper washed steel cased. I clean the guns after each trip to the range, having typically fired 40 rounds through each, but sometimes more. I have been using Hoppe's #9 Copper Cleaning Solution, letting it soak for 20 minutes or so, then running a clean patch through, and then repeating this process. When the patches look clean, I run a lightly oiled patch through the barrel. Generally, I don't use the brass brush because I worry about damaging the barrel. However, when I cleaned my SKS last night, I used the brush and got a LOT of crud out of the barrel, which makes me wonder if I should use it more frequently?
What do other folks recommend, specifically regarding using the brush, but also more generally for cleaning up after this kind of shooting and ammo? I want to find the right balance between rigorous cleaning and damaging the guns.
Thanks for all input!
