Hi CGNers,

I've been struggling to find an optimal setup for my rifle sling. The sling appears to be well thought out, but I haven't been able to use it in a way that give me much stability when shooting.

My aim has been to use it as follows:

But the loop is too far from the offhand, and the sling ends up very slack.

I've looked for a way to set it up online, but have come up empty handed.

Here is how the sling looks now:

I could always just use the hasty sling setup, but I think there must be a better way.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure you can use that sling as intended. Look up 1907 sling, Turner makes a good synthetic one. Another option is the Tactical Intervention slip/quick cuff slings.

Any idea on the intended way to use the sling? If it were just meant to be a simple carry strap, I can't imagine they would have included all those loops and extra leather

It looks to me like a plain carry sling, one little loop for your thumb, but apart from that it doesn't look like there's enough sling or adjustment for what you want it to do.

That looks like a basic carry sling. A sling designed to be used as a shooting support will have an adjustment within the first 12-16 inches from the front point so it can be shortened to pull the rifle into your shoulder.

If you look the sling in the picture has a quick adjust between the stud and bicep loop

Google Les Tam Slings, you won't find any better. He makes both a Heavy Duty Service Rifle Sling and the 1907 Sling, both of which are military loop slings. Given that the sling will be used on a light hunting rifle, a Safari Ching Sling from Galco International might be a better choice.

Boomer, is that a Les Tam or a Ching? I've used several Turner slings and really like them but really like that split design for hunting.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Looking at the Grizzly Hunting models, it appears my sling was made by them in style 2305.

Looks like I"ve got some shopping to do!
