maybe get one of those slip-on recoil pads to help you get over that flinch. Or put something squishy between the butt plate and your shoulder. Also , load up or get a hold of a bunch of dummy rounds. Slip them into your ammo or better yet have someone else load your magazine so you don't know which rounds are live. This can help with your "anticipation" which is a big stressor. If you are afraid of any kind of pain the rifle may induce, the flinch will continue. Remember, that it is not scoped , so you have no danger of "scope-eye". Holding it solidly will also help and wrap your hand fully around the wrist. Practice your trigger break also while unloaded. Imagine your follow through. Try different shooting positions such as kneeling, sitting, prone, offhand (standing) and sandbagged. Kneeling, sitting, and offhand shooting allow much more body movement to help keep felt recoil down, with prone/bench shooting allowing the least movement of your body after the shot. This means your shoulder takes almost all of the recoil. So, until you get over the flinch, you won't hit a 5 foot paper plate at 100 yards. Chances are that your eyes are not even open during the shot.
When I didn't have a slip-on recoil pad for a single shot 12guage I had with a steel butt plate, I wore a thin life jacket at the range and put the butt up against the life jacket. ZERO PAIN. This will only be a temporary solution if, by adding the thickness of a lifejacket, it doesn't increase your length of pull too much. (distance from the butt plate to the trigger. If you have to uncomfortable reach for the trigger, then you don't fit the gun)
