Proper wood for a P17

Very good condition P17 with the shortened/sporterized stock and handguard removed, a loose scew can be seen in the pic but its ok. Can another stock set with bands be available? I think that's all it needs to be worthy as part of a collection.. BTW, the bolt is original and on my desk for some unknown reason :D

Yes, spare wood can be found. However, it is usually British P-14 wood and not M1917 wood.

Watch out for DP wood with a circle drilled through the stock and handguard right near the receiver. These were for deactivated drill rifles and the holes should be filled before a restoration is considered complete.
 
Good luck, I have a Pattern 14 looking for the same...ie wood and bands, for two years now. Lot's of dead end leads, etc.
 
Guys you can call Numrich, or Springfield Sporters, or Great Western gun parts, Gun shows, E&E forum, Tradex has some parts, etc.

numrich has new hand guards right now. The had new M1917 full military stocks not too long ago. Check with them.....

I have restored over a dozen in the last 3 yrs. On my last one now and that's it for me.

Just checked, you can get a military stock from Boyd's. Word of advice, buy the hand guards from Numrich and the stock from Boyd's. The hand guards from Boyd's do not have the rivits and steel reinforcements.

P17 Stock

I have one or two P17 stocks in my stock racks.
The P14s are easy to pick out because most have the Volley sight base on the left side. Most of the P14s have P17 wood on them due to being rebuilt between the wars.
Just traded for a full wood P14 on Tuesday haven't checked it out yet.
What is the manufacturer of your P17?
