Prophet River Firearms - the definition of what a firearms store should be.

3macs1, I have had many things delayed at Canada Customs and U.S. Customs, including myself. I also have purchased more than single digit amounts of fire arms in the U.S. and exported them to here. I have also imported more than 3 times as many to the U.S. from Canada. This is the only time I had any issues, other than a serial number wrong on a piece of import paperwork (which by the way took all of 5 minutes to straighten out, lol). I imagine Clay is what most of the others are saying here. My deal was not to my liking, is all I am saying to those who say his service is A1.

If my Gun sat at Customs (be it U.S. or Canada) a courteous thing to do, to my way of thinking, was say that to me when I called and asked. I had no knowledge of Clay or Melissa in the deal, the only contact I was given was Clay at a phone number and he had your gun from Leroy. I was a little concerned and then get some body else other than the person I was supposed to contact on the phone and then all of a sudden the gun is shipped the next day...just did not sit well with me that no one wanted to explain to me what took so long. Melissa (if that is who I spoke with on the phone) cold also have told me what the hold up was and I would have felt a whole lot better.

Just one of those deals when I think everything that could did go wrong...and no one wants to explain to me what it was that went wrong.

You ignored my simple question. How are you getting them shipped directly to you ?? OK knowing a bit about Big valley I would say they would not send one illegal which means they had an approved export doc for this gun which means you either completed the paper work i.e the IIC form and did the foot work prior to Prophet river ever getting involved for the gun to be ready to ship or others did it for you.

Thus I ask an even simpler question. Did you ever hire Prophet river and pay their standard fees to import this firearm for you.
I would say NOT since you say you do multiple in both directions thus if not were you really ever a customer of theirs for this transaction but they delivered it to you anyway and now get kicked because they were too slow and would not spend additional time answering questions?? Maybe they were too busy dealing with paying customers.

I might be totally wrong with that comment but that is sure how it looks when picking through the details you posted so far
If true Leroy had no business adding a gun that was a done deal between you and him to Prophet rivers shipment and he is who you should be upset with. If anything it was probally shipped on Phophet rivers dime ( to save you some money as leroy said) they probally were never up to speed on it and only after you called they knew what to do with it and sent it out to you the next day. What is wrong with that?? How do you deal with items that show up in your business shipments that you never originated or are compensated to deal with??
God knows maybe I am out in left field, if so please let me know but that is how it comes out of my crystal ball with the info I have read so far. A simple YES I paid and hired Prophet river to import this firearm for me or NO I didnot would clear up a lot of grey areas here.
Sure get the impression Prophet River is getting kicked for something they were never hired to do or by any chance since you say you export/ import many do you compete with them for this business??
Cheers

I used Leroy for all of the shotguns I imported to Canada, until this one we are speaking of. I had no idea of the involvement or that he was partners with Clay until I called looking for this one. All the others Leroy shipped directly to me. I was a little surprised when Leroy said he sent it with Clay and I mentioned it and he told me that he and Clay were partners exporting and importing. He had never mentioned it before and he told me he did it to speed up getting people their guns, but he said it did not work this time. The very first shotgun I wanted exported to me I called Prophet River about how much it costs etc. and they gave me the same price as three others, more than Leroy by a long shot in my opinion. I never called them again as Leroy did a good job for me and he charged me basically the same for each one after, in fact a few of them were a little less, including the one he sent with Clay.

Leroy had a package he sent me to do, the IIC, and when needed the registration certificate, export value declaration, I can't just remember what else but I also think and invoice from Big Valley as well or might have been a purchase order. When he got the completed export documentation back the he would ship me the gun. He would call me on the phone tell me how much and then ship the gun. What I liked about him was he would just have me mail him a cheque after the first two we did when I paid him before he mailed them and I am sure all those guns were in my hand before he ever got the cheque.

All I asked of Prophet River, was to speak to Clay about my shotgun and what had happened to cause the delay, when I found out they did not ship it immediately. I agree it would have been nice if Leroy would have said hey I sent it up to Canada with Clay when he called to tell me how much to pay him. I just asked for an explanation from Clay. I had no idea Clay was Prophet River until I got the gun and that was the shippers name on the box. All I got from Leroy was Clay was his partner and nothing of Prophet River. Got me feeling real uneasy.

The importing of fire arms to the U.S. was from a family estate. I handled everything as the importer and delivered them to the FFL involved. Took a bit of time as there were some fairly uncommon ones in the shipment. I used Leroy fro all my exports and I have not exported on since this one we speak of here. I feel I need to find some one else to do this for me because of this. I understand you are pointing your finger at Leroy for making the mistake and he did tell me everything he did with my shotgun when I called and asked where it was. He also called Clay and then called me back. Took about 3 minutes and he said to me 'call Clay at this number he has all the shipping information for you'. I did and it took them till the next day to get it to me, because they had it sitting somewhere for the 4 week period I am assuming. Now, if it was at Canada Customs or U.S. Customs all he had to say was they held it up. I have been in and out of the U.S. many times more than once in a day with loaded/empty trucks and I am no expert importing/exporting, but understand how some things get delayed, but when I asked what the delay was of the girl on the phone she said I had to talk to Clay, same as Leroy, so how do I find out what the heck happened if the guy I am supposed to talk to, who I had no idea was the same Clay from Prophet River as I now read about on here, then what am I to think is going on.

What I do think happened, and as no one wants to tell me, I will think this until told what happened. Clay got my gun from Leroy, took it to his shop and completely forgot about it. He may have done it on purpose because he saw how much less Leroy charged me than he quoted me before, if he remembered me calling even as I was a few years before when I spoke with him, and did it on purpose because of that. Leroy also told me he had paid Clay to ship the gun to me, it is on the invoice I got from Leroy, broke down into his fee, how much for shipping, and of course the lovely taxes our Canada charged me.

I have no axe to grind with you 3macs1. I have read your posts about how Clay has treated you and I imagine he did treat you as you say. I am just saying what happened to me the one and only deal I have had with him. I have every intention of going into his shop the next time I am in his neck of Saskatchewan, just to look around and meet some people, not to see what happened here with this deal, to see if he does run a tight ship and see if I can get the feeling my deal just slipped through the cracks. May even get a chance to talk to Clay...we will see and that is for when I am free from fixing others screw ups here at my place.

I have since passed up a couple shotguns I have found down south only because of my concern of feeling I lost this one some where for a couple days when I was being told some one else had it I was unaware of was involved in the deal. Leroy knows how I feel about it and he did all he could to make it right by me but when he no longer had my gun...I still can not believe one shotgun got from him to me in 3 days...I have had them come from Saskatchewan (bought off the EE) and take 9 days. And he though it was quicker and cheaper to use Clay...which he told me on the phone it didn't work out this time.

I have no axe to grind either but found your earlier comments on Prophet river not the norm which is why I jumped in and now based on just what is posted it is clear to me what has taken place and why you may not feel 100 % satisifed with the service Phophet river provided you in this transaction. That being said and I could be 100% wrong but from what is shared here they went above and beyond to get your firearm to you since they had zero commitment to you other than what story Leroy sang and seen it through probally more likely as a favor to him vs being hired and compensated by you to deliver it.

As I see it you were never a Prophet river customer for this transaction nor paid for their service but expect to get the same service as paying customers, which I can assure you they jump through hoops for to make a situation right and this is regardless what Leroy is telling you or showing on a PO. It may be different now I have no idea but years ago Prophet river was just one spot Big River was dealing with in Canada and shipping firearms to. If Leroy is a true sole source partner with Prophet river why is he selling direct to individuals in Canada like you or me???. If I was Clay that would be a question I would be asking him right now
See to me a true parther i.e. Big Valley would say sorry I cannot ship to you direct to canada you must contact Prophet river after purchase and they will take it from there

Leroy is who needs your kick in the ass here and who you should be upset with and yes big time not Prophet river.Leroy had no business tossing Prophet river into the mix at the end of the transaction PERIOD.It was a clear cut deal between you who did the paperwork and Big Valley. NOTHING to do with Prophet river

I tried the importing myself game also for a while completing the ITT forms etc and all was well until one got tied up by customs and eventually vanished. After that I tried Prophet River regardless of cost and never looked back. Now I buy any state side I call Prophet river with details and forget about it. The few dollars you think you are saving will come back to bite you in the ass someday doing them yourself as it did to me. Been there

Any how take care and one thing I know for sure as a paying CUSTOMER you will not find a better gun shop or people to deal with in Canada than the crew at Prophet River and I am by far not the only member here that will say that. Given the opportunity for a transaction they originate not a third hand deal like yours here and they will prove that to you also so no need not to purchase state side. Or keep rolling the dice and do them yourself to save a few dollars and take your chances when one goes bad and it will if you buy enough.

Cheers
