Proposed Wolf Cull in Northern Alberta

Five or six years ago, my son and I were hunting on a grazing lease belonging to a friend. As we were walking along we noticed the tracks of a VERY large wolf. Apparently he had run game all night long to no avail. At one point we had stopped on a rise and were standing in the wood-line, looking out across a pasture about 600yds across. On the other side was a very funny moving deer. As I glassed it with binos, it turned out to be a wolf. Even though we had a foot of snow, his back was above the 3rd strand of barbed wire. It was much to far to shoot with either of our iron-sighted .303s and I didn't want to stay around and possible meet him somewhere unexpectedly!
It was without a doubt, the biggest wolf I had ever seen before or since. And there was no game in that lease for two weeks after that. Then he must have moved on since no one had talked about shooting such a specimen.

I would never be scared of a wolf if I had a 303. Far bigger stuff piled up with that venerable old warhorse. A cull may have some impact. Would have hoped for one in West Central as well.

I would have held about eight feet over him and let fly.

How does the regs work for the wolves? You only need the wildlife certificate to shoot one right? Or has it changed and you need to buy a tag.

Wouldnt mind shooting one if the opportunity presents itself!

Im PR bound in 10 days

I was deer hunting west of Rocky Mountain House and saw some wolves chasing white-tails. I pulled out a "fawn distress call" and did some squealing on it. Two wolves came on the run and I whittled them down with my savage 99 in .300 sav.
