Pros and cons of lighter springs?

The batch number they put on the labels should tell John or Brad which ammo it is. And at that point if you got the lighter stuff you shouldn't have any trouble with exchanging it. The guys are good that way.

On the other hand if you get a lighter spring to let the ammo work for you then it's one way to find out if you like the slightly softer "barely rules legal" minimal power factor ammo and if your scores improve.

The problem will be in finding then waiting to get the new spring. But while you're waiting you can just shoot the other regular stuff.

To their credit both were concerned with the problem, Brad apparently own three CZs. I had already used all the 9mm that I'd purchased from them but had brought back the casings and packaging when I returned to buy ammo for my new revolver, so they were able to identify the batch. John didn't say if it was light loaded or not but he did give me another box free of charge. I will definitely buy from them in the future.

Shadows come from the factory very oversprung for the lighter loads that IPSC shooters use to make minor power factor, and its quite common to see stove pipe malfunctions. Most competitiors will put in the combo of 11lb recoil spring and 13lb mainspring. This wont batter the gun,but if you want to shoot heavy loads, probably best to put in the original springs.Playing around with the springs can really affect how the gun behaves in regard to recovery from recoil/sight picture etc

My Tanfoglio has about 30K of rounds through it using a 11lb recoil spring and has minimal signs of wear so Im not worried about premature breakage with these spring rates

I'm new to all this tinkering around with springs so help me out here. Why would I need to install the 13 lb mainspring with a 11 lb recoil spring in a Shadow? Couldn't I just operate with the factory mainspring and a lighter recoil spring so that my reduced hand loads cycle 100%? I ordered the lighter recoil springs but not any mainsprings. I just assumed all I needed to cycle the lighter loads was to change the recoil spring.

The main spring (hammer spring) has nothing to do with the gun cycling properly. Putting in a lighter main spring will reduce the double action trigger pull and a slight reduction in single.

The mainspring has a big effect on slide velocity and how the gun functions as the heavier the spring, the more resistance the slide coming back has to overcome when cocking the hammer. When looking at how the gun functions and feels when shooting, the recoil and mainspring need to be seen in conjunction. As noted as well, another benefit of a lighter mainspring is a reduced DA trigger pull.

The 13lb mainspring isn't for making the gun cycle better. It's just to make YOU happier by reducing the trigger pull.

Servoman makes a good point on the rubbing of the hammer on the slide as well. I don't think it's as big a deal as he says it is but it is certainly one more factor.

That did cross my mind, the resistance needed to #### the hammer back....but as my Shadow is breaking in the resistance is less and less as things wear down and smoothen out. I'm going to just try the lighter recoil springs to start with as I am completely satisfied with the stock Shadow trigger as it is. After about 1000 rounds it is really starting to feel nice. In fact I find myself having trouble adjusting to how light it has become in single action. Thanks guys!
