I am looking for some sort of wing protestors or ears for the front site on my 590?

I am surprised the military didn't make them use them on the gun when it was adopted as a M gun?
They are pretty much always present on military iron sights?

At any rate, any ideas or products to use with the existing front site?
I would rather keep the front site as it is soldered on and is quite good otherwise.

I'm thinking it would be a band that would slip on ove rthe barrel and wing the existing front site and tighten with a clamping screw?

Thanks

Hi. Haven't ever seen 'em. Shotguns in the CF are normally only used for shooting birds on air fields. Isn't legal, by international treaty(The Hague or Geneva Conventions. I can never remember which one), to use 'em in combat.
You could make something out of Al pipe if you really want it. Paint it black with BBQ paint.

Check your facts. Shotguns are carried in combat by CF troops nowadays. Mostly as door breachers. The Geneva convention covers prisoners of war, etc. Weapons are regulated by the Hague convention, which to my knowledge does not prohibit shotguns.

It's a pretty beefy sight as is but if you like the look of the protected sight you could change yours to a LPA style.

Mossberg has other options out now as well with winged front sights.

I wish I had gone to the trouble of putting sight wings on mine when I first got it, that beefy front sight has a distinct lean to the right now, probably from a rub against a rock. The front sight is much more likely to be damaged than is the rear sight, yet they winged the rear sight and not the front, go figure. I adjusted the windage to make up for the lean, but if the lean gets worse or if the sight breaks off, I'll have to replace it with an aftermarket winged sight.

Boomer did you bend the blade or was the base also effected? I've sold my 590A1 but I seem to recall a dovetailed blade in the base?

???

Been standard issue to US forces for many yrs as well as sevral of my peers fought in the CDN forces with a variety of shotguns over the last few yrs in Afganistan. Not the primary weapon but optional and usually one in a group carries one. Buckshot and slugs both.

At any rate, the front site is def hanging out there. VERY surprised it got thru US military trials without a wing??
I am going to wing it somehow or it'll get replaced with an LPA or the like.

We have 870 police magnums issued, and it is not illegal to use then in combat.
