Today my daughter (6 years old) came with me to the range for the first time. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to try shooting but was super excited to watch dad shoot. Well that lasted one shot. Then the next 30 or so were hers (one shot loaded in the mag at a time). She did awesome listening to all the rules and keeping her finger outa the trigger guard until on target. The following 10 shots where with 5 in the mag at a time and again she did well and was very safe with her trigger control.

We tried her with two of my guns. The Savage A22 with the adjustable Boyd’s stock I thought it be ideal. But the Diamond back tactical scope’s retical confused her. So I brought out the 10/22 Magpul backpacker with a Simmons 4x32 rimfire scope mounted on it and she did great. I could not be prouder.

Most of all she had a blast and love it. I Apperently no longer own a Ruger 10/22 as it’s now “her gun” lol. Was alot of fun and can’t wait to get her out again. Will be signing her up as a junior member. Was going to get her a rascal. But the Ruger seems to work fine and fits her well enuff.

Great job Dad!

I got two young girls myself 6 and 9. They really enjoy shooting the 22 as well. Watching you kids get excited about shooting is a lot of fun to watch.
I was at the pistol range the other day and a father and young boy came to shoot their new 22 rifle at the steal flip targets. That little boy was cheering himself on with every hit he made. I had just as much fun watching him as I did shooting my guns.
 
Good on you...

Plan an an accurate bolt action down the line... so much better than semi autos in every aspect especially for young shooters.

I have a couple Good Bolt guns(Savage B22FVSS, CZ457 CDN). But I figured with her shorter reach operating the bolt be tuff at this time, So I opted to just run the semis as single shots for the day. I’d have to sell something to make room to get her a rifle so If Ruger works till she’s big enuff for the CZ I am happy.

Was a looking forward to this day for some time and did lots of practice at home training her before ever even touching a real rifle. I have a younger boy (3) that I look forward to taking as well in a few years. But he obviously not ready and will need to practice lots at home still with the nerf until he is as good at listening and following rules as my daughter proved to be. We practice by setting up a “gun range” in the house and use a nerf rifle that we treat as if it where real following all the same rules as the real range. Kids enj out the play time with dad all while learning the saftey needed when they can go do it for real.
 
Nice glad she had a good time shooting. I am a member at a club and am an avid range junky. Took my son out when he was 5 with a rascal. We took a few shots and wasn’t his thing even though it was mine. Got timbits after and he liked that more. I took him to archery night and he loved it. Few years later not so much. My other boy who is now 6 likes archery too and his red ryder. Most of the time they just run around the range and have fun in their own way though. Its not for everyone but we find other things to do and I still hit the range a lot. Both my boys can #### the bolt on the 10/22. I load a round and they shoot singles. I do have 8 mags though.

Great job getting your daughter out shooting! If she is doing well with the 10/22, I wouldn’t bother with a Rascal. I got one for my daughters and they outgrew it very quickly. Also the loading one round at a time got old real quick.
 
Stories like that make me happy. Showing to our youth that the shooting sports, when practiced safely and respectfully can be a great thing, that is the way to go.

Way to go! My son was into shooting fairly early with a little single shot bolt action, but my daughter really wasn't too interested until this year. Now she asks me to take her shooting after school and on weekends. They've both shot a couple prs matches this spring, and have their own bolt action repeaters at ages 11 and 12. I've got them both excited to get summer jobs by telling them I'll pay half for them to buy better scopes and stuff if they want to keep shooting matches.
