PRS First Build In Kanuckastan

Here's their warranty statement in their terms and conditions. I have talked with one person who had an issue after a year and they just gave them a new scope. I have only heard good things so far, its why I am going to give them a try.

Well the warranty coupled with the manufacturer being LOW would give me some confidence in buying since they make all the good scopes anyways, might need to give them a call. (y)

I’m going with a 25 creed instead of the 6. From the guys I’ve talked too it seems like the 6 creed cooks barrels faster than some of the other 6s like the dasher or gt. The downfall of the 25 creed is bullet selection.

I'm a Rocky dweller myself. The range is great with the steel they have out to 600.

I'm a really big fan of the XRS. Tried so many different stocks and chassis. this one just fits right (to me anyways).
I'm looking to build a 22lr in the XRS myself this year for the exact reason - continuity.
I have a bit of a drive to get there but well worth it for what's offered. I hear they are trying to open an even longer range in another area.

Glad to hear other shooters have the same thoughts around the same chassis with different Calibers. As you say consistency, I believe it goes a long ways to building good habits and not having to know how different chassis react.

Maybe our paths will cross. See you out there!

I am aware the 6mm Creed is hard on barrels and will probably replace the barrel with a 6 dasher once it's done. I have been shooting this caliber for a while with great results. It's a trade off that's worth it for my style.

Is there a link anywhere to all of the events in Alberta?

I’ve shot in medicine hat and genesee. The Taber shoots seem like they’re one day if I remember correctly and too far for me to go for a one day shoot. I’d like to get a couple more 2 or 3 day events in this year.
There's no perfect place to learn of all the matches on the calendar in our vicinity, unfortunately.

The best I can do is recommend facebook group "SKAB PRC". All the matches are discussed and announced there. Though if you join at any given moment it's not so obvious what the upcoming calendar is.

Thx adamg for the good news!! I have been searching for events to attend just to meet people and learn as much as I can.

I have signed up for the regional 2025 PRS Regional Series in Regina and Medicine Hat. I am waiting for a response from the Canadian Rimfire Precision Series membership but it states you have to be sponsored by a member to join. Will see what they say.
CRPS does not require any membership or special privilege to enter their matches. They are first come, first service, and they never sell out in Western Canada. CRPS has not announced a 2025 match schedule at this time.

Big update to the build. Unfortunately the original option I was purchasing was not a possibility so I'm now moving forward with a new build that is true to the statement " Go big or Go Home". I have always wanted this build and after talking with a few friends in Austin, they convinced me to just do it. Insight Arms will still be doing the build and know I am in good hands.

Here's the new build specs and even some gear to go along with it.

MPA Matrix Pro Chassis
Impact 737 action RH Std. BF
CRB Insite Comp Hawks Hill Barrel, 7.5T, 26-27"
Chambering 6mmCM
Muzzle thread for Heathen G2 4 Port Brake
Bix'n Andy Tac Sport Pro-X single stage with flat shoe set to 8 oz's
Atlas BT46-NC PSR Bipod
Game Changer Optimized Waxed Bag
Gray Ops Atlas Arca ARMAGEDDON FAT BAG LRG C. TAN
DNT 7-35x56mm
2 x AICS 10/12 rd. Mag
Gray Ops Scope Mount

I like this build as I will be able to change out barrels on my own when the barrels are burnt, and by bolts for different cartridges.

I am also a firm believer in sticking with the same gunsmith to do all my work as each gunsmith has their own idiosyncrasies in how they build which translates little things for the shooter.

Anyone else have thoughts on gunsmiths, experiences with, etc?

Any changes I should consider to this new build? Feedback is appreciated.Thx all

you dont need a DBM with a chassis.

if youre getting a scope mount from grayops, look at the grayops AW mags, theyre beautiful.

also, youre spending a premium for the best parts, and youre putting a cheap scope on top....

I'm not familiar with DNT scopes as I don't have any experience with them nor do I know anyone that shoots one so can't comment on them, I hope it works out or you, waiting to see the pics once it's built and ready to go, Harley will do a great job on it, enjoy the journey into long range shooting it's a hoot.

You’ll find no better rifle builder anywhere! Harley builds awesome guns. Best of luck with our new rifle!

Thx, I have continually heard good this about Harley and his workmanship from many others. I can't wait to see how this build performs.

oops, my mistake. That line with the DBM was from the previous build.

Will check out the Grayops AW mags. Looking for steel mags.

As for the scope. I realize that and I am very skeptical, final decision hasn't been made yet. I was considering a Vortex Gen II 4.5 27x56 or Nightforce 5 25x56 initially and still leaning that way as more feedback comes in. May consider others.

Appreciate the feedback. It reinforces my gut feelings

DNT is an EP5 but with a better reticle.

These scopes are somewhat similar and the DNT is a better scope overall when up against this price point.

The DNT is at least as good as a Razor Gen2.
A Razor Gen II retails at 3700.00 the DNT at 800.00 amazing the price difference with the supposed same quality. I wish I could get a DNT in my hands before purchase just to see the quality. My wallet may have to take a big leap of faith.

Anyone in Calgary running a DNT scope? Would love to see it.

just curious if you have a DNT or have used one to be able to make that sort of claim.
I have not used the DNT. The cloest I have used is the Arken EP5.

Part of my statement is based on their specifications, especially the elevation turret travel range.

After further research I have decided against the DNT scope. I am sure it's not a bad scope but I just don't feel comfortable moving forward with IT.

I have also decided against the Vortex and Nightforce scopes because the price points are too high and with the advancements in glass there is a better option that I think will fit in perfectly with this build.

As previously mentioned as an option I have decided to go with the Tracts Toric UHD 4.5-30x56 34mm MRAD ELR FFP. The price point is good at about 2300 and offers everything a higher end scope would. I had talked to one of the Jons at Tracts and they were very helpful answering all my questions and the warranty seems solid. If you want to check them out and watch videos from PRS shooters here's the link. Interestingly one of the videos shows a very similar build of rifle that I have coming.

Appreciated all the feedback and will follow up with pic's of the build once complete.

Cheers

Did you consider the Apex Rival, and if so how did it assess relative to these other scopes?

Yes I did and I still prefer the Tract. Here's a link with a review for the Apex, Tract, and and older Vortex. They had different shooters, and each scope had its pros and cons but the Tract came out as number one.

Thx for the suggestion and appreciate hearing other opinions and options.
