Sorry that your legitimate question got sidetracked by the "measuring contest" above...Been looking at getting into some matches for fun, maybe starting with the rimfire. Could anyone explain the divisions, it seems self explanatory for the most part but if you have an aftermarket chassis on an otherwise factory rifle does that put you in Open? Signed up on Practiscore and been poking around looking at what is coming up this season but have a bunch of questions.
The official divisions for PRS (as of date of this post) are:
-OPEN: can use any setup that floats your boat. No restrictions on weight or cost. There ARE caliber restrictions though.... limited to 30 cal or less, and 3200fps or less (see Precision Rifle Series Rules and Standard Operating Procedures 2.1.1a).
-TACTICAL: restricted to 308win and 223/5.56 (max of 77Gr and 3000fps for 223, and max of 178Gr at 2800fps for 308).
-PRODUCTION: "off the shelf" factory rifle. Rifle MSRP is $3000USD and scope is $2500USD MRSP as listed on the company website (not the smoking deal you paid for used or on sale). Rifle is defined as: stock/chassis w/ bottom metal, action, barrel and trigger. Cost rules only apply to the optic and rifle, not other accessories such as rings, mounts, muzzle devices, etc. You cannot modify the rifle by changing the trigger. You can bed your production rifle.
-GAS GUN: semi-auto. Self-explanatory... not really applicable to us in this current climate....
-SPORTSMAN: restricted to 13lbs or less and caliber 6.5cm only (not exceeding 3200fps). Weight measured is of rifle, muzzle device, optic, bipod, any accessories you want to mount to your system (level, dope card, etc), AND an empty magazine. The magazine you weigh in with is the one you must use during the match. Can't use front bag/plate bag.
The other categories you may/may not qualify for: International (non-US resident competing outside your country), Ladies, Junior (17 and under), Senior (55+), Suppressor (whomp, whomp...), Mil/LEO (must be active, full-time. Reserves, part-time don't qualify).
So to sign up for a match you would register in the division you want/qualify for, and then check any other categories that might be applicable to you (i.e. a lady could compete in Production division, and a junior could compete in tactical - so at then end of the match, if either of those competitors scored very high they could walk away with trophies as Top Lady and Top Production, or Top Junior and Top Tactical (and any other overall top 5 positions they qualify for).
So, to answer your question - a factory rifle in an aftermarket chassis puts you in Open Division.
Sorry this was delayed, hopefully you were able to shoot some matches and start to get it figured out.
Also, most of us are all hoping that Practiscore continues to fade in to oblivion in favour of Impact Scoring, so be sure to keep tabs on Impact (website and mobile app) to monitor upcoming matches.
