Hey guys,
Looking for feedback on high butt-pad positioning for centrefire rifles. In modern positional shooting (PRS/NRL), a lot of shooters run a square stance with the butt pad mounted high—centred near the collarbone rather than tucked deep in the shoulder pocket—to keep an upright posture and reduce muzzle jump. For those running this setup on larger centrefire rifles:
1. Mounting Position: How close to your body's centerline do you actually place the butt pad, and how are you finding recoil management with this placement on or near the collarbone with heavier cartridges?
2. Buttpad Adjustments: How much butt pad drop and cant/angle adjustment are you using to make full pad contact without digging edges into bone?
3. Consistency: Do you keep the high mount across all positions (like kneeling to prone), or drop back into the traditional shoulder pocket for prone centrefire shooting?
Appreciate hearing your experiences and stock/chassis setups!
