Hey guys, getting a 7.62x39 rifle in soon and wondering if anyone has used this kind of ammunition for hunting. Wondering how it performed and is it a worthy contender to say a sp from sellier and bellot?

Any info is much appreciated.7.62x39-ammo.jpg

Edit: Found a Gel test video on these and they expand great. Can find it on page 2 of this thread.

They have been making ammo for ages . sorry I can't answer your question brother . have you looked it up on youtube ? maybe someone has posted their results on there . I'll bet it works just fine . expansion wise .

Can't comment on its performance on game, but in my CZ 527 it doesn't group as well as their brass cased ammo with spitzer type bullets. Share your results if you do harvest an animal with that ammo. I have a few boxes it.

Quite a bit more to buy but the Federal Fusion 7.62x39 ammunition has been simply stellar when shot from a cz 527 on nice sized, white tail bucks. Accurate, full penetration, great performance. Now if I could just find the fusion bullets as components I would be all set. Shoot the cheaper stuff for practice, save your brass, then zero with the Fusions and go hunting. I'm a died in the wool Nosler Partition guy but these Fusions have been so good that I would love to try some 150s in my brother's .300 Savage.

I wonder why they’d load such a rounded nose projectile? Looks like something made for a lever action. I have some of the Barnaul x39 steel case soft points and they’re a lot more pointy than that.

IT feeds just fine for me but isn't as accurate as other SP bullets I have tried. Still plenty accurate for deer hunting though. I got a few box's due to their price will have to see how they perform in the woods.

I've shot quite a bit of PPU from my 527, it shoots exactly the same for me as S&B to the same POI as well. I usually see 1-1.5in at 100yds groups with it, opening up to 2in at 200yds. I've seen pretty much the same performance from Hornady steel and brass cased SST rounds, they just shoot to a different POI. With my rifle I see zero reason to pay double for Federal Fusion, ymmv.

After giving this specific PPU a try at the range I'd for sure use it for hunting. It wasn't far off from far more expensive box's I tested.

My CZ 527 won't feed the PPU RN bullets. Shoots reasonably accurate, but without being able to load from the magazine I won't use them for hunting. Hornady SST's worked well on target and on the one whitetail I have shot with that rifle so far.

I used a PRVI 123 grain PSP to shoot a decent buck about 15 years ago and I was impressed at the bang-flop. Never tried the round noses and I have no clue why PRVI would choose to load them over the PSP's.

I have a bunch of those bullets pulled from a lot of mixed ammo I bought. They are quite stubby. At ranges most people are likely to use an SKS at it should be fine though.
