PRVI Milsurp Ammo

I've been kind of wondering, for a while now, why no one imports any of the more obscure ammo for military surplus rifles that PRVI makes.

It appears from their website that they still make 8x56R Mannlicher, 8x50R Lebel, 6.5x52 Carcano, and 7.5x54 French.

You would think there would be enough demand from milsurp owners to justify importing some of this stuff with the other, more common, PRVI ammo like 7.62x54R, 8mm Mauser, and 303 British. I have seen all of those at gun shows, and for sale on the EE, but none of the other ammo.

Is there a reason for this?

I have asked the Canadian Importer for Prvi Partizan about these calibers and he feels there is not enough of a market for it in Canada. It cost $3,000.00 per caliber and can take over a year to have it submitted and approved by NRCAN. So the Importer would have to pay $12,000.00 in fees for the four calibers, before ever importing or selling a single round of ammo.

Odd calibres

If you check out the Trade-Ex website, (they are a CGN Sponsor and there is a link to their website above,) you will find that they do have ammunition and reloading components in most of the calibres you list.

Trade-Ex is a great company to deal with. Their service is well above the normal, and they will try almost anything to help you. They also have a toll-free phone line.

T.E.C. Trade Ex Canada Inc. Check them out.

"I do believe SFRC is bringing in pretty much the entire privi milsurp line, including 8mm, .308, .303, and 7.62x54r. "

Yes they are getting their ammo from the Importer I mentioned above, but that same Importer will not bring in the rarer calibers mentioned in the first post.

(8x56R Mannlicher, 8x50R Lebel, 6.5x52 Carcano, 7.5x54 French, 7.5x55 Swiss, 9mm Browning Long, 7.62 Nagant Revolver.)

i tried to get prvi components brought in

But the distributor, bell is refusing to bring them in. If you want something Done let bell know what you want and pound them with as many people asking for it as possible.

Damn NRCAN jokers... I sure hope they'll get canned in the next round of public spending conpression!! They are supposed to insure safety, not refuse import of certain calibers they don't like and make life difficult for importers and shooters! 12000$ for testing a few cartridges??? WTF are they doing that could possibly cost that much??? Are they testing on the French Riviera between rounds of polo??

This has changed since the first posts last year. JP posted an update here -

These calibers from Prvi Partizan will be imported in the Spring, ask your local retailers to stock them for you. Only in FMJ, no SP will be imported by Bell Distributors.

- 7.5x55 mm Swiss FMJ

- 7.5x54 mm MAS FMJ

- 7.9x33 Kurzt FMJ

- 8x56R Hungarian FMJ

- 9mm Browning Long FMJ

- 7.62 Nagant Revolver FPJ

Wow! That opens huge milsurp doors for people who don't reload. Like myself. There wasn't a lot of rifles I'd buy if I can't shoot them, so this is good news.

So what is the mailing address for Bell Distributing? And to whom should the letters be addressed?

This is the same company that has brought in a lot of popular firearms in the last decade. Just like Century Arms did for years until the feds put the screws to them. It doesn't help their business to bring guns in, but leave the owners without ammunition.

With the number of inexpensive Husqvarna M1907s that have been offered for sale in recent years, you would think there would be some kind of market for 9mm Browning Long.

Does the same restriction for importing ammo from Prvi Partizan applied to importing surplus ammo from the USA? A couple of years ago Samco had cases of cheap surplus Swedish ammo but would not sell directly to Canadians.

I loathe BELL, with the greatest of loathings at that, but will hold my disgust in check to buy a pile of 56R if they actually do bring it in.

You will be buying it from your local Gunshop, since Bell only sells to Dealers. Hopefully, that will sooth your loathing a bit!

Things take time. Since all the restrictions of US made ammunition, other manufacturers have been slowly grabbing a piece of the market. PRVI, S&B, LVE, and MFS are a few to hit the Canadian market place, and/or increase sales in the last couple years.

Borrowing from another post I read a few days ago, "PRVI is some of the best ammunition on Earth". I'm finding this to be quite truthful. I'm welcoming the changes and new products. IMO, North American made ammunition does not give credit to many of the calibers mentioned in the OP. Things may change slowly, but they are good changes.

I'm resuurecting this post with the inquiry as to whether any of these calibres actually got imported yet.

I didn't see any show up at any spring gun shows, and I don't see any for sale on the EE or at online dealers.

Did this actually happen yet?

Yeah, they are in,

The shop I work for got 6-25 boxes of each type of ammunition in. BELL should have all of this available now. Just ask your local gunshop about bringing it in.
