Yah, it definitely looks like they were cutting corners in order to increase output. I wonder what exactly caused the explosion (machinery sparking, static buildup, etc.).

A word of warnrng about the rem 799 mini mauser.
Remington is no longer importing them so if you bought one like I did
and your sear pin breaks in the trigger , good luck finding parts , remington does not cover them anymore!! And it is next to impossible to find an aftermarket trigger for them as well.
I got 28 rounds down the pipe when my sear pin broke!

These were also marketed by Charles Daly as the Super Mini Mauser and the larger Field Mauser model as well. Might help with parts...
