PSA Classic Freedom AR15

For the average user a PSA is a good quality rifle, made of good quality parts and assembled by people who know what they're doing. You're not going to find anything cutting edge, but then again, you probably don't need anything cutting edge. As far as Colt's go, civvy (US) Colts are good quality rifles, using milspec parts where applicable, but that's about it. Colt Canada are premium rifles, using premium quality parts assembled in small batches - everything is checked, tested and assembled and tested again, like someone's life will depend on it. BCM uses premium quality components, all tested, all checked, assembled by people who are both experts and enthusiasts. For what we do in Canada, the PSA is more than adequate.

Ok great. I think Iam going to buy a PSA for about $950 after tax then put a nice BCM KMR rail on it for another $300 and a Pmag and and some magpul flip up sights. A colt oem1 alone costs more than all of that

I built a PSA freedom rifle with a stainless barrel for $440 (USD) during a sale. I have been happy with it and still am. It has been 100% reliable and is pretty accurate.

You are getting some extras and better resale value with the brand names. I would trust my life to a Colt or BCM but probably not my PSA.

Edit: I guess it was $500 total including the Troy rear sight.

A more detailed answer would be PSA freedom AR15s have 4140 steel barrels (or 416r stainless), 6061 buffer tubes and MPI bolts. BCM has Cold hammer forged chrome lined barrels and colt has 4150 chrome line barrels. Their bolts are MPI/HPT and buffer tubes are forged 7075.

You CAN build an equivalent rifle from PSA parts kits for way cheaper but the freedom line isn't going to be. Their CHF barrels are made by FN and are fantastic.

I had a PSA Freedom with SS barrel which I just sold. It was a great and accurate AR. As others have stated, it consistently comes up as one of the best under $1000 budget AR companies.
