What is the collective wisdom on the PSA Freedom series of rifles? I notice that there is what appears to be a pretty good deal on them at this moment. I wasn't thinking of getting anything at the moment but this has caught my attention. And, as if that wasn't enough, I see elsewhere that the Smith M&PIIs are on sale elsewhere for a good deal as well. So now, I'm scratching my head.

I know the Smith is a good gun, but I have not found much on the PSA. What is the collective wisdom on the PSA Freedom, and how do they compare to the Smith?

Thanks in advance.

I'm gonna find out soon. I just ordered the PSA Freedom 16 FDE from IRG. I could not resist at 399.00 USD. This will be my 1st AR. BTW Cabela's have Remington .223 ammo on sale with free shipping. Happy Xmas to me.

They're not bad imo.
My buddy got a 7" PSA upper (complete) and the only real issue was that the set-screw gas block wasn't dimpled, and it shifted forward. Once dimpled, good to go again. Gas port was sized perfectly for that length barrel too (most 7" barrels are so overgassed they practically eject on the left ;) )

I've heard that their extractor/ejector springs are of 'enh' quality, but to date, I've yet to run into an issue with them. Fairly cheap/easy fix regardless.

For $572 CAD to your door........ you can't go too wrong.....

I'd take a PSA over an NEA/Norinco any day of the week.

That's seriously what the total is for someone like me, here, in Orville's workers paradise?? That's $100 less than the Smith. Are these PSAs new guns or used?

Resistance is...well...eroding and may well prove futile. The price tag is what got me from not planning to get anything to...heeeyyyy....wait a minute...!

According to real world high volume shooting range person, PSA rifles are reasonably good. Uppers and barrels seem to last over 50k rounds firing all day mostly in full auto mode. They get similar lifespan out of Colt. To put things in perspective, that's about $30000 in ammo cost.

Read this thread, there's some great info on longevity of various parts (multiple designs and brands covered), as well as typical failure modes.
