PSA Powder at Cabalas

Wow! $85 is something to be excited about?! Just last year I was buying powder weekly as it arrived at Cabelas and Canadian Tire for $50-$55 a pound. A good 60% jump in a single year!

The mom and pop gunshop I frequent had Varget in stock and the owner was apologizing for having to raise his prices due to his cost increases to $75 a pound for it.

I said I will take the 2 lbs ( his limit Varget per customer which is 1 now ) because you are holding it up showing it to me here and now.

I started reloading again back in the powder shortage days 2014 ish when f/a for powder @ $30 a lb was to be found except the odd bottle of Titegroup around here.

Primers out the hooper for $22.95 /1000 brass galore cheap bullets and dirt cheap dies, presses any anything else BUT no powder.

I swore then you see it you buy it but dont go full toilet tissue and hoard it, leave some for the next guy.

There were 3 old timers standing inline who spoke up and said if he doesn't want it we will take it. They knew the same thing.

I did do an online order for 2 lbs of IMR4198 because of this psa ( thanks sammer ) and cabelas free ship to store so powder is sufficient for my needs at present and future hopefully.

So $89.99 plus tax each lb, expensive sure complaining no. To me its like having an old car you really want to drive but there is no gas available. Not much point in having it.

Well Cabelas is living up to their crappy reputation for online orders. I waited 3 weeks for the powder to show up via ship to the store before calling.

The powders showed out of stock online a day before I called. The lady found the order and said she had no idea why it hadn't been filled as they had stock at that time.

She said they had more coming and did I want to leave the order open or cancel. I cancelled. The page showed limited stock at the store so I called and asked and they indeed had one left.

I bought that one in person.

The Wallys and Arabian Tires around here are going full woke and getting out of anything firearm related in the last while so the clownshow at Cabelas will continue I guess.

I have ordered powder and primers from Cabela's online with no problems. Even if it's shown in stock at the store I still make my order online. This gives me time to pick up my order as they will hold it for 2 weeks for me once received. I did have a problem with a rifle I purchased from them but that's another story.

FYI, I was just able to buy Varget, H4350, and H1000 in one order at Cabelas. They must have been recently restocked, I check the website every few days when I start getting low.

I appreciate the heads up! I grabbed a couple 8# of Varget! Haven’t seen those in a long tome

Stopped in to Cabelas Calgary today, they had 2 8lb jugs of H4350 $650
There was still one left when I left ;-)

Guy at the counter said he had a couple 8's of Varget left
