PSA re: bolt failures in recent import M-14 pattern rifles

I agree

Happened to me

NS took my rifle back, they want to have you pay for shipping though...

Its been out for warranty repair for 2 weeks now, I guess they have a lot warranty work to do, being a chinese importer and all...

Having had the misfortune of dealing with NS over a warranty issue, I can tell you that the package is probably sitting on a shelf somewhere, unopened, and will stay that way for a good long time

I changed my bolt before anything bad happened. A generous CGN'er on here donated his stripped 2007 Norinco bolt. Now the only issue with the rifle is it fires full auto almost all the time when bench rested.

If only doing it from bench, I would suspect primers (ie. slam fire) or limp-wristing. If it doesn;t do it standing fire, you are likely holding the rifle wrong.

Ahem.

The US Rifle M1 and Rifle 14 were service rifles. Made for combat of base human violence. Iron. Steel. Wood. Brass. Copper. Canvas. Raw muscle and brute strength. They fire and function when handled the way they were designed. With springs moving parts at full speed. With big muscle movements. With two hands seizing the stock firmly - gripped for dearest life. Made to be carried a lot. Made to be reliable. AND made to be fired with the butt pulled into the shoulder. Strongly. Manfully.

If you delicately unwrap your precious rifle from its silken gun case, and cradle it from place to place. Rested across open palms. If you delicately place it on artisanal crafted wooden blocks and tiny bunny rabbit-shaped beanbags. That arrived by courier from the darkest Amazon. If you nudge it with soft touches and pushes to point your 15 power of optics at a paper target a measured 100.4m distant. If you hold it with two fingers and lightly pinch the trigger against the trigger guard. It recoils to midair. THAT is how you get limp-wristing and failure to function stoppages.

(And this ends the lesson in the spirit of Ernest Hemingway and Jeff Cooper.)

Tagged for knowledge.
Wondering if it’s just one bad batch?
Do any new/recent manufactured ones still have good forged bolts?

This is my second M305 and my other doesn't do it. A noticeable difference between the two is the one that does it, has a very sensitive trigger both in weight of pull and reset.

Wow.... now I'm kinda sad iv butchered my 2013 bolt for my 45 project. Got a spare complete gi bolt from wolverine if I gave up trying to get a .458 barrel blank so I'm covered.

is there a particular retailer who we can purchase something other than these inferior commercial offerings, perhaps with a lifetime warranty? Someone with a reputation for having good bolts?
