1 of the guys I hunt with went out without dogs on a foggy day. Saw 39 and got 1 ! lol (These were rockers by the way)
 
I made the mistake today of only bringing 1 mag. I missed a couple of shots and had to double hit another.

Was still a good day today though, brought home 4 birds (daily limit for me is 5) but on the way home I was teased by a nice flock right on the road but alas I had no more rounds left lol, murphy's law. Next time I'm bringing a box of ammo

The wife is hassling me to get her some ptarmigan but I haven't seen any yet. What is the best time of day to catch them in the open up here in Yellowknife?

I hit the road about 30 minutes before sunrise when it is bright enough to see. The birds are very active then.

I saw 3 separate flocks today about 5-10 birds each all within 30 minutes after the city limits sign.

Man!! All these pictures are making me miss home! I'm disappointed I won't be home at Christmas time to do some hunting.

Stew was good. I mixed in some beef chunks as well. slight gamey taste to the birds, but good nonetheless.

Last time I made it I think was better. olive oil and fresh chopped garlic and sprinkled with italian seasoning in the frying pan.
 
That worked, went out this morning and got three. The wife is very happy and working on them now. Should have had more but it seems the effective range of my double barrel 410 is about 10 to 15m max with 6 shot. It has what is likely a cylinder bore so the pattern opens up very quickly.

I also took along a 10/22 but dam if I could see the buggers until they moved so I just couldn't get a shot of with that. Might bring the 12ga for longer shots on them with full choke next time.

Should get together one of these upcoming weekend mornings. Could always help to have a second set of eyes.
