PTG Bottom metal question

I'm looking to lighten up my Gen 1 Remington 700 titanium .260 Rem. Is the PTG hinged bottom metal lighter than the factory bottom metal?

I think that I more or less broke even weight-wise when I swapped my hinged-Floorplate Howa 1500 bottom metal for a Pacific Gauge and Tool detachable AICS magazine system. The aluminum PGT Magwell and Trigger Guard weigh a bit less than the steel Howa bottom metal, but add a steel AICS magazine and they become pretty close. You might actually save a tiny bit of weight if you go with AICS P-Mags, although probably not enough to notice...

PTG also sells a hinged floor plate which I assume that the OP is referring to.
 
It will come in within an ounce of the factory unit... I have used the PTG steel metal on a few M70's... weight would not be a consideration... but the fit and finish is very nice on the PTG steel.

agreed, perfect fit and lighter. Just picked one up to complete a new custom build.
 
Unless the PT&G bottom metal is aluminum and even if it is it will not be lighter than the original Rem bottom metal. I built up a super light on a 700 Ti action in 300 WSM and used the original bottom metal as none other was lighter. PT&G speed lock kit and alum bolt shroud really knocked some weight off though as did the Brown Precision Kevlar stock. I went with a 40X trigger but I doubt it was any lighter than the original just a little more precise.
Weaver bases and rings and a Leupold compact 3-9X36 completed the package at just under 6 lbs.

I added a factory bottom metal to a first gen Ti in 260 and dropped it all into a model 7 pattern wildcat stock. It was a beautiful rifle.

The scope is a vx2 3-9x40 with aluminum flip ups.

Best way to make it lighter would be a Gre-Tan aluminium shroud/fluted firing pin setup and a Wildcat stock.

I can't see the PTG bottom metal gaining you anything over the original.
