PTRD Shipping?

When I sold mine, it wasn't that bad to ship. I used a 12" cement form, roughly 86" long, and cut 3/4" thick plywood for the ends. You can remove the buffer and butt from the gun to make it a bit shorter.
Stuff the gun in and use lots of dunnage, cause the Canada Post monkeys aren't going to like it.

If I recall mine cost $60 to ship from Manitoba to British Columbia. The Post Office ladies said it was the biggest parcel they had ever shipped.

Max size for a parcel is 120" when you add the length, the width, and the depth. This parcel has 10" to spare. There is no weight limit on CanadaPost parcels, they will just charge you accordingly for overweight.

Funny thing was when the parcel got to the guy's house his kids saw the pictures of the swingset on the side and thought that was what they were getting (right tootall?)

30Kg max? I went well over that a couple months ago and had no issues. I was at around 36Kg as I recall. Shipped several guns and some ammo in one huge parcel from Ottawa to Toronto.

I used to go over it all the time. We shipped cylinders heads that were 37Kg. During Christmas the union cracked down on the rules and now they won't.

He speaks the truth.
And I have the photos to prove it

They managed to poke the front site right through the side of the tube. Fortunately, when the Russians designed it, they must have had the CP monkeys in mind, because it was fine.

Gibbs, when CanAm comes through with some ammo, I'll let you know how it is to fire. Until then, it remains quiet.

Ha, looks like Stencollector finally ran out of OD duct tape & had to switch to red.

Funny thing about retiring from the military...the supply of green guntape ends. However, once in a while princess auto gets in big stacks of factory seconds for $5.55 a roll. Sometimes it's in red, sometimes black, and of course, my favourite color, sometimes Olive Drab.

The cement tubes are a favorite of mine for shipping. You can almost walk on the package, and other than the hole knocked into totalls parcel, I have never had a problem with this type of packageing. Of course, this has pissed off Canada Post, so they now have added a $1 surcharge for cylindrical parcels (mailing tubes).

Also a correction to my last...obviously by the photo the tube I used was 10" dia.

I think I counted 4 different colours of tape on that package!
And several more colours on the dewat Sten, and the aiming tripod I bought from him.
(I think its time I sold him something in return;) )

Great, looking forward to the reports!!:D :D

Great packing as well. I will have to price out sonotubes for the future!

I bought some of the rifle boxes from the local moving company a couple years back, and they charged me 4 or 5 bucks for a box that required the rifle to give it strength. A 8' length of the tubing runs about $7, out of which I can ship 2 rifles, or several shorter guns. Only downside to it all is the few minutes it takes to cut the circles of plywood for the ends.
The duct tape isn't really neccessary anymore. I just use it to prevent the post office monkeys from getting slivers from the wood, or the staples getting caught up on something. No point in giving them a reason to throw it into the nearest BFI bin.
Also, after I tape the address label on with packing tape, I like to run a circle of ducttape over each end to prevent the label from getting torn off. Seems that the label being torn off is the most likely cause of losing parcels. I'm sure emplyee theft and negligence comes into there somewhere as well.

Tootall: I would love to buy something from you......but my list of holy grails just got a bit shorter today with the aquisition of a liberator, and there isn't too much else I am looking for these days.

The last rifle I shipped out, I built a box to fit so the there was no likleyhood of damage to the rifle. I packed the rifle in bubblewrap in any case!
