Pulled the trigger on a new PS90...Finished Pics on last page!

Update alert...

Just got off the phone with the gunsmith working on the PS-90, and he advised that the barrel is done, and being test fired... Next week is the Parkerizing, and then back into my hot little hands...:D:D

Can't wait to get off the restricted "grid".... and into the realm of not having to shoot it at a range...

I've been very fortunate to have hooked up with a fantastic guy to do the work on the gun - I will post pics and a range report once it's complete...

I'm guessing yours will look something like this...

Best part is that the overall length ends up being almost exactly the same as the factory "Restricted" version...

Yup. Very similar to that with the exception of the threaded end on the barrel for adding a muzzle brake / flash hider. This way it tucks neatly beneath the factory shroud, and with the addition of the vented moerse barrel cover, it should look great!

We are expecting to offer short PS90 barrels again soon... my guess is 6 to 8 weeks but that's just an estimate.

I would guess that the 470mm barrel will be about the same timing... we'll offer the complete non-restricted PS90 and we'll also be offering the barrel on its' own for those that want to convert their existing guns.

You should see these added to our website in the next couple of weeks.

I'm in full redneck mode...

...which means I'm buying accessories for things that aren't actually in my possession...:D

With the PS90 almost complete, I've managed to pick up a few things for the carbine now that it's no longer under the "house arrest" of restricted status:dancingbanana:

I went with a very tiny optic on it - that being the Vortex SPARC... It appears to be very well made, and should be able to handle the incredible recoil of the 5.7x28mm round. Plus it's nice and low, which helps offset the several inches of bore to sight relationship.... hehe

And here's a pic beside a loonie for size comparison... it's quite small... Aimpoint Micro small, without the bank account reduction capabilities...

And while I was on the accessory buying binge, I grabbed a "grass catcher" for the bottom - It's sole purpose is the prevent my Lazy Butt from over exertion while I stoop down to collect the spent casings... This is much more civilized...

I'll post pics of the completed carbine once all the puzzle pieces are together... I'm off now to hide my credit card and smash myself in the head to induce amnesia ...

Picked up the PS90... Now just to take it to the range!

er... I mean take it anywhere! Free from the constraints of restrictedness...:D She's ready to strut her stuff in any field or pit or bush lot... wooHoo!

Completed, it's only marginally longer (maybe an 1/8") than the factory barrel shroud combo... The decision was made to err on the side of caution with the method of barrel measurement... So the barrel length, on it's own, exceeds the non-restricted length - it doesn't depend on the extra little bit of length if measuring to the bolt face... The end was fitted with a next to flush bushing to fill in any gaps and clean up the front where it meets the vented shroud.

Speaking of where the muzzle meets the shroud....Nice Crown!

Here's a few more shots...

I'm quite happy how it all went together... Ian at Herron Arms did a wonderful job, and worked with me to find solutions in order to make the end result look the way I wanted it to... The final product wasn't cheap, but it wasn't expensive either - for the amount of custom work that went into the project, lathe and mill time, finishing, fitting, parkerizing, better tolerances than factory, etc...the price was more than fair... I encourage anyone wanting to de-restrict their little "stargate guns" to give Ian a call, bring him a bucket of money, and end up with something different and done for you... my 2cents...

Plus, it's fitted with a match grade barrel - so what if it's got 1/16" of spring tensioned play from factory...:D still a match barrel:D... Did I mention that it's got a match grade barrel...???

Now to offer my services to the never ending reduction in the Coyote population....

He may be a super genius... but wait till he meets 40 grains of super sonic...;)

Stormtrooper, that is one sweet looking gun and it's NR too! Ian does some amazing custom work eh?

The wait was worth it! Now all you need is a 3x magnifier for that red dot of yours and you can hit coyotes out past 100 yards..speaking of which, where did you get it and how much? Did I miss that??

Thanks for the comments all and the pm's...:D

The SPARC actually came with a 2x magnifier... so it may be enough to punch the yotes out to 100m... we'll see next week...

I picked up the sight at Grouse River Outfitters in BC... it was $239 plus shipping ($5 for expedited)... the Flash Kill was an additional $30 and change I think...

Cheers

Mike

Mike, I hope you don't mind me asking but since that thing looks so F****g cool, what is the absolute total not including optics? Rifle, new barrel, gunsmithing, etc

Great vision on your part, & great job by Ian. I honestly don't like the "roundness" of the PS-90, and the round you're running doesn't interest me. But after your mods, that rifle is a must have.

Maybe if I get fed-up of my soon-to-be-here Tavor, I'll go "rounder" :D

I don't mind you asking at all...and your not alone... I've received a fair amount of pm's and emails regarding the same thing...

Like I said it wasn't cheap....

Gun from Questar $2000 + Tax and shipping
Shilen Barrel Blank $250
Gun Art by Ian @ Herron Arms $500

Your Gun Art figure may vary based on what you want done +/-...You can work that out with Ian (great guy to deal with).

So end of the day, it's in the Tavor neighbourhood with respect to overall cost... In comparison to my Israeli friends in the safe downstairs, it much smaller and lighter, with a better trigger (still Bull-Puppy though) and shorter length of pull.

I haven't gotten fed up with my Tavor(s) hehe:D, but there's always room in the safe for other plastic and metal guns - especially non-restricted. We actually got a chance yesterday to do a little plinking with it, and the added barrel length did quiet down the noise of the gun...no hearing protection was required - sounded like an angry 22 magnum... As well, the velocities I'm getting out of this gun are similar to, if not faster than shorter barrel AR's...

We only got to play at 25 yards, and the goal was to test the function and roughly sight in the SPARC... but once dialed, our last group was an ugly clover leaf... I'll be doing a little more formal velocity accuracy testing this week from a bench at 50 yards.

They're your ears, but I strongly suggest some plugs and/or muffs. Tinnitis and other forms of noise induced hearing loss suck to deal with. Your "angry 22 magnum" is plenty loud enough to exponentially increase your use of the word "what?".

Nice gun, by the way.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by no hearing protection was required... I plan on taking the gun out to lay waste to a few of the local yotes and ground hogs... typically shot in an open field, and not pounding through a ton of ammo...so for the small number of shots that would be fired, I will not be wearing hearing protection... behind the gun, it was not loud at all...
