Hi guys,

I have a number of 7mm Mauser bullets to pull from loads I don't like...I have an old Herters puller die/collet unit, but I am a little leery of the strength of the shell plate holder on the 550, when it would be pulled.

Does anyone out there have experience with this machine for pulling bullets? I was thinking a cheap rock chucker type loader as a stand alone puller??

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Well, shoot, if I had more coffee in me, I might of thought this through a little more...

I wasn't expecting Dillon to be open this long weekend...but they are, gotta love their tech support. Anyway, I asked them the question and he said it should be fine. I questioned the "should" part of his statement and he said that he had seen brass cases pulled apart when insufficient lube was used on resizing....and then I realized duh! :bangHead::bangHead: of course, there is a lot of vertical pull on the case when resizing.

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth...maybe someone will benefit from this anyway.

Cheers

The 550 works fine for bullet pulling if that's what you've got. You can put the puller in one station and a seating die in another to "break the seal" if need be prior to pulling.

So that's the trick..I had to crank down so hard on the collett to get it to grip, I broke the handle off the puller...makes sense, break the seal before pulling...see I knew something good would come of this thread.

thanks!

So I did end up getting the Herters puller setup properly in the 550 and managed to pull about 50 bullets of 2 calibers that I wasn't going to use again...worked 100% after I replaced the broken handle with a 1/4-28 hardened bolt...and lubed all the threads and surfaces of the collett. Some of the 7X57 was REALLY hard to remove, not sure why as I just loaded them last fall, but the rest all came out without too much fuss. Something to do with brass thickness or ??

Anyway, it was all in all a good day in the loading bay.

Cheers
