I just put a Lyman peep sight on my .45 Colt 24" octagon barrel Puma, it is great. It was a little tough getting the windage corrected though. I had the front sight driven half way out of its dovetail to get the groups centered and this was totally unacceptable to me. I ended up having to place a shim under the right side of the rear sight base, now I was able to more or less center the front sight in the dovetail.
When I purchased it the action was a little rough to my liking, and it was mangling the case mouths on ejection. So I trimmed a couple coils off the ejector spring, a couple off the carrier detent spring and a couple off the hammer spring as well as placing a shim under the trigger return spring. I polished all the mating surfaces and pins and screws were there was metal on metal movement in the action. Wow, what a difference, but I still wasn't happy about how much drag the hammer was creating on the bottom of the bolt. I was able to darn near eliminate this by carefully trimming approx 3/32" off the top of the hammer. This reduced the amount of overcocking that was occuring. It will also reduce the beating the sear takes when shooting fast. I also did not like the fireing pin safety that John Browning never intended to exist so I made a steel plug, contoured and polished it to match the top off the bolt, blued it and installed it.
Was all this work worth it? Most definitely! It is way slicker than my slicked up Marlin .357!
