Hello all!!
I just wanted to take a moment and say thanks for all the help here, as well a share a small success.
Over the last year or so I have been searching for “The Silver Bullet” for my trap doubles addiction. I am a right handed, but a left eye dominant shooter, that shoots left handed. I have tired many different guns. Some pricey some not so pricey, in almost every configuration one can think of. But true success continued to elude me.
For singles, I settled on a 1970's vintage “tricked out” 870 wingmaster. It wear a standard contour 30" vent rib barrel with rem-cokes, a Bradley bead, mid-bead. I have added a none monte-carlo trap stock, had it bored out for a mercury recoil reducer, and added an over-sized fat fore-end I bought here on the board. To finish it off, I added a Taylor Trigger shoe, and treated the whole gun with Microlon Gun Juice.
While some days my score does not reflect it, this gun over all shoots well for me.
The other night at practice, I tired my S x S and scored an abysmal 28/50. That being said I really like to shoot doubles. After my round, I was sitting staring at the gun wrack, and thought “Im going to try my 870 pump, at this point I really have nothing to loose!!". So put in the mod choke tube, and I trotted on up to the line for my next round. Would you not know it, I scored 37/50 on the next round. Please understand that my personal best on doubles this year was 38/50, with my all time best being 41/50.
Well It thought this was just a fluke, so I signed up for another round, and scored exactly the same, 37/50.
This to me was very encouraging because I was able to immediately identify some flaws in my shooting that should add another few birds. So for now anyways, my singles and doubles gun will be my 870 Wingmaster.
I know that the above score are not particularly high, especially for someone who has been casually shooting trap for the last 6 years or so, but they are signs of small successes and thought I would share them with you.
Regards and all the best
