Pump gun velocity question?

Hello,
I'm looking into buying a Daisy 953 for target shooting but wanted a .22 pellet rifle to use for hunting. I was looking at the Daisy 22SG, which (when pumped enough) will fire at 600 FPS. Or at least thats the listed velocity...
So now I'm scratching my head and wondering: Does this make it a 'PAL required' rifle?
Sorry for what I feel is a bit of a dumb question...
Also if anyone could recommend other .22 pellet rifles for hunting (under $350 and of the 'no PAL required' variety) that would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Well now, if it's listed at 500+fps then you will need a PAL to purchase. I believe what you want is a Diana model 34 in .22, try RWS Hobby ammo,, those tip the scales at 11.9 gr, thats pretty light for a .22,,However, you may want to experiment with different heavier ammo, this will deliver more energy on the target game. I would buy several types of ammo and have some fun seeing which is the most accurate for your rifle. Price every option against Specialty Shooting Sports in BC, they'll have the best price.

Great!
Thanks for the info, I plan on checking accuracy and also trying to gauge their penetrating power by shooting tin wrapped clay.
I checked the Diana 34 and it shoots at 740 FPS, so I guess I'd need a PAL for that.

Check the Diana again, there will be a sub 500/fps model, I'm assuming you don't have a Pal (yet), also the FPS rating that the makers use are based on very light, in fact the lightest pellets available, inclose shooting these light pellets will be accurate, but they start to fly as your yardage increases, do buy the lightest and some middle weights and some real heavy ones, you will learn a lot about energy and penetration vs speed that way. Try using a phone book to test penetration. Specialty Shooting Sports has a great selection of ammo.

The Benjamin Sheridan Trail All-Weather looks nice, .22 and under 500 FPS, same with the Cometa Fenix 400 and the 495FPS variant of the Crosman Phantom.

I have the 495 fps phantom - great accuracy, lots of power. It hits tin cans HARD at 35 yards, so some small critters would be no trouble.

I checked DL Airguns for the Diana, they probably just don't stock the sub 500 fps model. Good idea with the phonebook
No, I don't have my PAL/RPAL yet, but in two years I'll be old enough to apply for them. I still think they should bring back the JPALs.
