Pump or Bolt for 30-06 hunting?

I have never been around the newer 7600. I did have 760 from the early 60's(I'm guessin) and it shot alright and cycled well enough. I was young and new to hunting and my Uncles didn't want me to carry with one down the pipe(fair enough). When I would see a deer the action was so noisy I could see disappearing for miles around. The new ones might be quieter?
 
I have a 7600 synthetic stock carbine in a 30-06. Nice, light and accuate. I also have a Ruger KM77 mark 2 which is also nice, light and accurate. Where I hunt in Ontario, I don't use dogs, however alot of people around me do. The funny thing is, the only time I have needed follow up shots, I have been hunting with my bolt. So far, every deer I have taken with the 7600 have been one shot kills. That said, I really wanted the model 70 featherweight a few years ago, then they were not available so I got the Ruger. Might have to pick up a 70 when my savings account grows some more.
I typically use my Ruger for sitting, and I take my pump gun for stalking. I guess what I am saying is, you cannot go wrong with either, just pick the one you are most comfortable with.

I have hunted with a 7600 now for 20 years. I have used levers, bolts and semi's during this time. All work well and depends on which you learn to like the best. I have brownings and other more expensive rifles but for 20 years my 7600 by far is my go to gun. I hunt with dogs and have made several multi deer kills with it thus i like the speed of the follow up shot., never have had a cycle malfunction. Regardsless of the gun for me I dont find a standing shot on a deer difficult so a slingshot would work, but when they are moving I like to have the second round close by. Just my 2 cents as you wanted to here from actual 7600 owners. Good luck with your choice, I find guns are like beer, not necessarily bad ones but some are better than others.

I love the looks of the new Win M70 featherweight, what an absolutely gorgeous and classy rifle that is! But knowing the terrain and bush that I normally hunt here in Ontario it is hard to ignore the 7600. Yes quick follow up shots would be nice for moving deer, we get alot then hunting with dogs!!

I think the 7600 is just about as perfect as a rifle can get for Ontario. With a 22" barrel, detachable mag, fast follow ups with the pump, good accuracy out to 200 and 300 yards. And a sticker price of $250 less than the M70.

Please dont get me wrong here if I lived in open terrain or hunted alot of farmers fields or even hardwoods the M70 would be awsome!! But I hunt farmers fields, hardwoods, cedars, swamps, bogs, hills and pretty much the a$$hole of the earth here in Ontario. Remington 7600 gloss with the 22" barrel in 30-06, I think would be a rifle that serves me for decades aswell as my sons (if and when I have one).

I need to hear from you 760 and 7600 guys that have been shooting and hunting with yours for ever, tell me your stories! Thanks

Have you looked at the Marlin, Bolt Action, model XL7? Pumps are nice but less parts in a bolt gun to cause problems out in the field. It comes in .270 and 30.06, and is getting great revues as low cost excellent value hunting rig. I believe a few gunnutz members have bought them and are very impressed.
Do a google search of the model and you'll find a ton of reviews, mostly good if not all.
If I had the available cash right now, I'd have one!
