Purchase in the next couple of weeks - Goodale hedge??

You never need an excuse to buy something you might like :)

However if your intention is to try to make a difference with the money, consider a contribution to a political or firearms association that you believe would have a more effective use for your money.

With all these talks about banning and how good the price is currently I'm leaning towards buying an AR instead of a pistol as my first firearm. Just trying to decide which club to join as most around my area is hella expensive.

Silverdale has walk ins 20 dollars and they now give you a card so if you go 10 times you get your next visit free. Works great if you only want to shoot in the nice weather.

That's a realist attitude from someone that doesn't want hard earned assets arbitrarily taken away. Look at the bias in the media... we are going to be screwed. Am I angry about it? Hell ya! But sticking my head in the sand won't make it go away. I'm angry at every snowflake that voted truedope and his henchmen in. I'm not abandoning guns or buying guns... I am thinking it through smarter. My "high capacity assault weapon" of choice? It's the lever gun. I will fly under the radar with a higher center fire capacity than the others... and I will be able to shoot it anywhere as a non-restricted. More restrictions are coming. We can be as mad as we like, write letters, or try to shame others like you are doing to me... it won't change jack schidtt. The only thing that will change what's going on is a change of government.

You are a delusional defeatist.
If you think your lever gun is somehow allowing you to ‘fly under the radar’ of the gun control left and they will leave you alone, you’re also burying your head in the sand.

If we took a page from those that have bucked the system of bans - I can think of the recent win that recreational and ‘medicinal use’ users of cannabis have made. They have overwhelmed the government and policy with three truths:
1) bans (of any kind) don’t work, and
2) prosecution of a group if it is so large, is not practical and does nothing to curb the thing they are trying to ban.
Prosecution of it costs a rediculous amount of money.
3) Courts do the talking and b/s takes the walking. If government laws suck, they will not pass the scrutiny of the courts, and the courts are where gun owners need to take the fight to the government - tooth and nail.

If Canadian gun owners got their collective sh!t together, we could tie up the courts for decades.
If thousands - tens of thousands of productive members of society (a drop in the bucket of eligible firearms owners) decided to say ‘f*ck it, charge me, throw me in jail and let’s fight these b/s charges in the courts’ - everyday average shooters from all walks of life - it would force the government to make tangable, proper and fair changes to our laws.

I couldn’t agree with you more!!!

You know... my views are not against anyone having any AR or semi-auto centerfire of any sort. I am not telling anyone that they shouldn't or should do anything. I showed my own point of view on what I would or wouldn't spend MY money on and why. The people that are pouncing on me are not one bit better than the people that pounce on all gun owners for having a different view than them. You are no better than the anti's if what I do with my money pisses you off so much. Good luck with that. I think it's better to all stick together than it is to call me delusional or a defeatist or some of the other mudslinging. But hey, that's your view... and I'm all for everyone being entitled to their own opinion. But we are all screwed if we can't stick together... and quite frankly... I'm a bit deflated by getting name called here. I'd expect that from the anti's... not here. I'm fairly new here asa matter of fact... been reading lots of posts as I google this or that over the last several years... but just joined a couple months ago. Gun owner groups need new members. What a fine welcome?

You'll be fine, Rider. Like any public group/forum, you'll always have extreme fringe members ( trolls ) who'll try to suck you into debating them. Sometimes its fun to shut them down, but it really depends on whether or not you feel its worth the effort. By and large, I find this a great forum for learning about guns and feel most members are very supportive and understanding of different viewpoints. But like life, the rabid dogs always bark the loudest and sound the meanest.

Enjoy yourself. Be comfortable and welcome. Come for the education, stay for the discussion, but don't forget, you can always block abusive aholes.
Best wishes and don't feed the trolls
Bob

Go back and read your first post. You’ve basically came into the thread saying you won’t buy a semi auto because they are going to get banned, you don’t trust your government to make good laws, and essentially you see it akin to flushing money down the toilet.

Peoplekind in the thread called you on it. The Government, through their anti-gun agenda, have defeated you already through process that is designed for such purpose.

You don’t like being called on it so you came back on to justify further your actions without admitting to the fact peoplekind are correct - that the government has already handed you your as$ and you don’t even know it.

Now you’re back and you want acknowledgement that you are feeling the victim by peoplekind pouncing on you for your viewpoints.
How am I doing so far?

The government, both bureaucrats and politicians, do not want you owning firearms. For most of them, it doesn’t end at firearms. For many it doesn’t end at property.

How many items, actions, and uses does the public need to have banned?

Well, for what it’s worth I kind of agree with some of what you say - they are out to and will ban them eventually.
We’ll see if owners stand up and be counted, and in what numbers when that happens.

Caved? Like me? Oh, so you're willing to piss away thousands of dollars in toys? Or you're willing to just hide said toys later and be at risk of the consequences? I work too hard for my money to piss it away, so I spend it as smart as I can. I will not stash a gun the has been deemed illegal. You can talk big if you want, but I call bull####. If you stash an illegal gun and get caught... they take ALL of your guns, not just the illegal one... and then you are prohibited from getting more... and then you can't enter the USA (and I like to travel)... and you can't do allot of other things that require no criminal record. You talk all you want, but it's just talk.

The reason you have been attacked for your somewhat defeatist position is because you just told everyone who does buy a center-fire semi-automatic firearm that they are pissing away money on toys (your words, not mine). You go on to imply that your spending philosophy is smart, to whit all others must somehow be what, less than smart? I could go on, but it is your own "attitude" that immediately got some people's backs up in this thread, whether you intended it or not. And then there is the fact that by your own admission, you have already given up regarding the forthcoming fight (either now or later) over center-fire semi-automatic firearms. In other words, you will probably do the "smart thing" and not bother putting forth any collaborative effort for a cause which you already believe is doomed. Just like how the "smart" folks spend their money on lever-action rifles. But what if I happen to think that lever-action rifles are an archaic anachronism best reserved for cowboy wannabe's, and they just don't scratch my firearms itch? Tough to fall in love with a type of firearm that incites zero passion within you... Just saying.

Stick around long enough, and you will no doubt figure out why your comments pissed in peoples' cornflakes. You didn't demonstrate a whole lot of appreciation for firearms interests other than your own, which is fine. But to imply that everyone who doesn't ascribe to your particular brand of firearms logic is less than "smart"? To imply that money spent on center-fire semi-automatic "toys" is simply "pissed away"? Well, that's just asking for some push-back.
