Purchase of a Vortex Scope off of US Fleabay

In this economy guys, we need to look at the bigger picture. I don't really care about the laws, my money stays in Canada as much as possible. I am self employed, in this industry, I buy from local dealers as much as possible, I will mail order from with in Canada if a local can't get what I need. I will only mail order from the US in a situation where the product I need, or a reasonable facsimle, is not available in Canada. Yes I know, alot of the stuff we buy here comes from US distributers, but we need to support our local dealers. Look at the top of this CGN page, look at all the CANADIAN businesses that sponsor this site, please call them the next time you need something.

Rant off.

If everyone felt like this, we would have much fewer economic problems.

As stated previously, if you purchase scopes privately off of E-Bay without the proper U.S. export paperwork, the seller has violated the U.S. export regulations.

If caught, the seller can be put in a world of hurt by the U.S. authorities.

Now for us being Canadian, we run the risk of have the scope seized without compensation, having any future purchases inspected at the border, and run the risk of being "flagged" by U.S. authorities. If you are "flagged, this could cause you added grief if you are trying to cross the border into the U.S, and could lead to you being denied entry into the U.S.........or subjected to being held at the border and questioned/searched.

If you are buying items in the U.S. and not doing it legally, I would suggest not mentioning anything on this site. CGN in monitored by Canadian and U.S. Authorities........and discussion of illegal import/export is against the forum rules. ;)

FYI, the U.S. Commerce Dept controls the export of scopes, sights, and mounts/rings. They have no exemptions so you require export paperwork on everything under their control. Some items under their control may also have further restrictions from U.S. State Dept.............This would include optics designed and sold for Military/Police use.

I would love to buy CANADIAN but unfortunately the CANADIAN marketplace feels the need to overcharge us... So I buy were its cheaper, and I couldn't care less about supporting CANADIAN stores. I only care about the bottom line; Can I save money and how much !

Not only do I buy all my gun parts from the U.S. I get all my clothing online, shoes,Hockey equipment. and my car pars.. ect ect ect... I dont remember when I actually purchased something in Canada besides my groceries...

Thanks so much for supporting the Canadian economy! You are a true patriot.

The scopes I bought on Ebay were from a legit dealer. The problems are with buying from individuals who want to push thier luck on Ebay.

Incorrect. It doesn't matter if it's a dealer or individual. If you export without a licence, you're breaking US law.

Just because the guy will sell it to you, doesn't mean you're in the clear.

Trust me - it's not worth it. Either do it by the book or not at all. This is NOT something you want to mess with. They say most drunk drivers get away with it 20+ times before getting caught... Doesn't make it legal!

If you want a local dealer support local dealers, the small cost savings of buying from a desperate seller from far away will be quickly offset when you have to travel 3 or 4 hours to buy the basics because there are no local dealers
