Purchased a brand new Mossberg 935, received this...

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?!

Obviously Cabela's doesn't claim to sell used firearms (unless obviously used surplus SKS, etc) and with their all firearm sales as final policy I feel they will pass it off to Mossberg.

One of the employees was in a bit of a bind and needed to borrow your shotgun for a season. Come to think of it, my current waterfowl gun I've used for the past 11 years doesn't look this bad.

Wasn’t there another thread about this and a mossburg? I seem to recall their guns are test fired before they are released for sale. Maybe this one needed a bit of work before it passed? Seems excessive.

Well, that's been around the block once or twice. It would be interesting to hear what Cabelas have to say about this.

Waiting for a call centre rep to get to my call. Obviously they are slammed right now.

I get the possibility of test firing, that would explain the residue on the bolt face. That alone would not have inspired me to make a post. However, all the other bits of damaged are not a result of test firing.

I don't know who does the "safety check" at Cabela's. I just bought a 10/22 and it wasn't placed in the box correctly, the green seal tape was broken and the finish was worn off the muzzle area.

Update - 4:10pm EST

Spoke to a Cabela's call centre rep who was shocked at what I was explaining to her. In her 10+ years she has never heard of anything like this and confirmed that they do not sell any used firearms online (where I purchased).

It has been escalated to a Product Specialist and I am waiting to hear back from them. Will post updates as I get them.

Really interested to see how this will play out...

I have an old WELL USED 935 that has wear in the camo finish but not that bad..........................
that's terrible for a new gun.
wish you luck getting a replacement.

I’ve been using and abusing my 935 since 2007 and it looks to be in better shape than that gun. What do the friction areas of the bolt look like? My 935 needed a couple hundred rounds through it before the blueing on the bolt slides started showing any signs of use. That has to be a used gun.....a few shots from the factory would never cause that kind of wear.

Also, does the serial number on the box match the gun?

Curious if the sn on the box matches the gun?
