Purchased Firearm from US, but wrong caliber sent.

With the help of my brother I ordered a few new firearms from the US (using a broker) one being a "SIG SAUER 226 9MM 10RD TWO-TONE CONTRAST SIGHTS".

When it was picked up and the paper work done at the border, we found out that in error the seller sent a .357 sig caliber instead of the 9mm. I was disappointed, and the seller was apologetic, however I don't want it in a 357. To send it back to the US would be impossible, and I was thinking of selling it, but I have no clue how much I should sell it for. It is unfired and still in the box.

Does anyone know what would be a fair price for something like this that is brand new and unfired?

I would start at what you have invested into it, it would cost someone else the same amount to bring it across.

You could change the barrel to 40 S&W ( Much better cartridge than the 9mm anyway ) & if you didn't want the 357 sig barrel I would be interested in buying the barrel . PM me if interested
 
Why not trade it for a 9mm. 357 SIG is not as easy to get.

I am amazed the border let it through as it would not have matched the permits.
 
It was corrected with the firearms registry once it was here very easily. The serial number and everything matched. Just the barrel calibre was out.

If I brought it to a gun store to trade it, I'd probably lose alot.. ie: 25 to 40% even though its a brand new unfired gun. :(

Yes, the reg is easy. I was thinking more about the IIC and DSP-5.

Not if you trade it to a shop with a customer who want a 357 sig, but cannot get one.
 
Just buy a conversion barrel from EFK Firedragon and you are good to go. They are meant to convert a .40 or .357 Sig to 9mm. You would just need to buy some 226 9mm mags. The 40/357 mags apparently will work with 9mm but may not be totally reliable. Questar should be able to get the barrel as the barrel in my PX4 is by EFK.

You would then be able to switch back at anytime. :)

40 & 357sig have the same size base .9mm is smaller . how is the bolt face & extractor on a 357sig slide going to work on the smaller 9mm ?

True 9mm is smaller but many guys on the Sig site are running 9mm in their 40's with just the conversion barrel without issue. Having said that... if you are only planning on shooting 9mm, it would probably be better in the long term to get a 9mm slide with a standard 9mm barrel.
 
You can buy a 9mm "conversion" barrel that will drop in to the 40S&W or .357SIG gun and allows you to shoot 9mm out of your .40 or .357 SIG.

You can use your .40S&W/.357SIG magazines for the 9mm and the bonus is that the magazine will hold more than 10 rounds of 9mm but since the law regulates the number of rounds the magazines was designed and manufactured for you are still perfectly legal. (I believe the 40mags hold 12 or 13 rounds of 9mm).

We've done a lot of Glocks (model 22, 23 and 27's) with 3 barrel conversions and we've done quite a few of the P229 SIGs (in both 40S&W and .357SIG) with 9mm conversion barrels. They all work great.

One gun... 3 calibers... great setup.

Don't be too quick to sell off your .357SIG gun...

The other thing to consider is to buy a factory .40S&W barrel for your gun that way you have 40S&W and .357SIG in actual factory barrels rather than aftermarket (if that's a concern for you).
