Picked up my first surplus rifle. Have a big interest in WWI and WWII history.

Have always wanted a MK3 Ross and a SMLE for the Canadian link, but there just a bit too costly for my budget so decided on a simple Mosin instead.

Finally today got all the cosmoline cleaned off. The stock has a few repairs it seems but overall I very happy. It’s a 1935 hex reciever Russian model.

Always liked the Mosins. Up to five currently. Been looking for a hex receiver but missing them when I have the money to spare. It’s a good start. You can still find Lee Enfields under a thousand if you want a shooter. Rosses are getting up in price for even a shooter. About 25 years ago I made up a list of military surplus I would like to have. I am still missing a couple but I also kept adding to the list. I started with the cheaper ones first then with a better job and pay i started to finish the list.
Welcome to the addiction.

I have 4 Mosins, there's a lot of variants to collect if this is the goal. I have one shooter dedicated and tuned to Chinese surplus and 3 different snipers with excellent bores that are fed with handload only.

Congrats on your first one!

I satrted with a mosin too for the same reason.

If you would like to own a Ross, you can do like I did: buy a sporter one. Much cheaper and you would still be able to appreciate the smoothness of the action and the precision of the sights!

Here is my MKII:

I also have a 1935 Tula hex receiver Mosin with some minor repairs. They were made by a refurbishing arsenal so they are legit. Mine is MO double dated. That was a mystery for some time but now it's solved. Mine's pretty accurate. Have you shot yours? Is this PPU ammo on the table?

My first rifle was a roughly sporterized Ross given to me in 1967 when I was 13. Shot my first several deer with that rifle.

Congrats, I started my milsurp addiction with a sportered Swede m96 but my first full military configuration milsurp was a mosin. Like was alluded to in previous posts it is addicting and my want list is always growing. Happy hunting.
