Well i have been saving up for a while for a standard gun and with the recent rise of the CDN dollar i purchased an STI Executive today.

It was a tough decision as i have heard a lot of good things about the Tangs but i just had to do it.

I went with the Executive because it is basically an Edge which i wanted anyways but with some upgrades that i would have had to either order special from the store or get it done elsewhere.

My buddy Murray had one and sold it to Scotty B. it is a great gun to shoot and if i was going to shoot standard i would be looking hard at one.

You won't regret your decision, STI makes a great gun with one exception, ditch the fatorcy extractor and put in an aftec. They cost more but are cheap insurance in the long run.

+1 on the Aftec and the STI. But I would just use the factory extractor `till it cacks and have the Aftec pre-fitted and ready to go. Why throw away something that's working out of hand? But you should always have a spare parts kit anyway; might as well be the best extractor you can get. Once you put in the Aftec you'll probably never need another extractor.

Thats why I carry another gun as backup as well as a spare aftec;)
I sent the one that broke in Guelph back to Derek and he sent me out a new one, #### happens, what you can do?

What you need is a nice Tanfoglio.
Bwaaaaahahahahahahaha!
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Stock extractor in my chrome ExecuEdge it has 22K + no failure....well now that I said that I guess I will get a Aftec because.....it's now bound to fail :)

The only problem that may take a long while before it fail.....on the other hand all my Open gun's (5) have the Aftec..... ;)

If it does, great! Longer is better. Saves money.
But having fitted hundreds of extractors over the years and seen what they can do and how they can fail, I can unequivically state that I have seen far fewer failures with Aftecs than with any other standard extractor brand. It's a better design, period. Just keep some extra springs on hand. Nothing lasts forever.

I too have an Executive

I have an Exec. STI, and have heard the stories about extractors. I have been an IPSC shooter for 2 years, and have a lot to learn. I do not know the proceedure for "tuning" an extractor. Can someone explain. Thanks

There is an article called "ejection perfection" that should answer all your questions.
