Purchased the auto throw for my FX120 w/auto trickler

Yep i finally caved in and purchase the auto throw from Adam.
Anyone else running it?

Maybe share some fine tune hints and tips to properly set it up ASAP when it gets here.
Now that i have a second press, my small single stage press (Lee Challenger) is now next to powder station and is dedicated to bullet seating.

So while i seat a bullet the auto throw and auto trickler will prepare the next charge for me, a small luxury i will enjoy for sure!
 
i actually just received my fx120i yesterday and also placed an order for the auto-throw and auto-trickler as an upgrade from my rcbs chargemaster 1500. just waiting for shipping confirmation.
 
I previously owned chargemaster 1500, and currently own fx120 with auto trickler and Lee dip spoons.
Even without auto throw, my auto trickler fx120 setup is quicker than a chargemaster 1500, and looks more accurate too.
You will love it and probably ditch your rcbs once it comes in!

thats great to hear. how long did your auto trickler take to ship after you made payment?
 
Last time, It took about 3 days after payment before receiving my shipping notice.
Which is fine in my books, considering this is a one man operation that's not a full time job.

Just got in, once again impressed with Adams work.
Incredibly easy to set up and install.
Only minor issue which may resolve itself over time, the supplied plastic cups are filled with a static charge and powder clings to it.

Took picture while it was trickling up to 43.5gr by the way, i do not aim for obsolete load numbers as pictured
 
The FX 120 will likely be my next purchase. There was rumor of the powder thrower option coming out and I was waiting for it.
I do thought the idea of it would be a good idea.
Question is, with a scale this expensive, why would they use a lee powder thrower?? There are way better ones out there.
Think on mine I will just get the trickler and scale and use the old fashioned method.

They use the cheapest possible because the trickler is what makes the setup as accurate as possible. Keep in mind the lee perfect measure is still more consistent than a guy with a spoon, which is the "old fashioned method" and works fine.

Personnally I love the idea. You can get a bunch of hoppers from Lee (for free, yay!) for all your different powders. I just wish the hoppers would be larger. And yes, the static goes away after a while. You can wipe the inside with a sheet of bounce too to get rid of it quickly.

Welcome to the poor club! :D

One suggestion I can make is to replace mini plastic cup with a tall protein powder scoop. It will save you a bit of cleaning in a long run.

There is no need for a precise powder throw.
I throw 2.5gr under anyways and trickle the rest. So even if it would throw more or less within reason, still a ways to trickle.
Adam says your trickle should go full speed before trickling down.
I used to use powder scoop and auto trickle, while it was very good and this is a superficial way of spending 250$, i do enjoy the treat, makes reloading even more enjoyable.

By the way, this powder thrower does not cut or crush my varget at least.

Yeah i will do that, still prefered the non-static of metal spoon, i'll get used to the plastic one, has a fancy handle too.

Yeah why not, my wife drinks protein shake for breakfast, one day her spoon will simply dissapear...
 
I managed to upload a video on youtube just to show function.
Show that it will accurately dispense 43.5gr of varget in 15 seconds.

So i am hoping for 30 mins time next batch.
30 minutes to powder 50x 308 casings, and seat 50x 308 bullets.
Press right next to powdering, i seat as my auto throw/trickler prepares the next charge.


 
I have had the set up for a couple months not, I think i have done a couple hundred rounds through it by now.

I did about 100 rounds of 223 for my trainer rifle this past weekend, after all my brass was primed I could not keep up with this set up and would say I was doing a charge and seat in about 45 seconds per.

I may be crazy but I think they recommend having the pan in the centre of the plate. If I remember correctly it has to do with its accuracy.

I also have 3 of the wind screens in place, I used my drill press to open up a hole in the side where the trickler goes through. Even when the furnace is running it is very stable.

PVA and Area 419 out of the states have special powder pans coming out (PVA actually has theirs out right now).

I also use 3 windscreens
There is one in front, i don’t put one where trickler is and also use that side to manipulate scoop

In my reload room, heating duct is shut off, dehumidifier shut off, fluorescent lighting shut off, prior to using scale.

Tried removing grey plastic powder scoop guide once autothrow got here, it stuck pretty solid so i guess it’s staying there for now.
Installed just as autotrickler instructions a year ago
 
I have had the FX120i and auto trickler for a few years and love it. I had a pack of the lee powder scoops so I select the one that gets me close and let the trickler do the rest - fast and accurate

The auto throw does the job a little hint quicker, as instead of spooning a powder load i can seat a bullet.

Is it that much quicker? I’d say no.
Rule of diminishing returns at this point.
I got it because i can and wanted it.

Yes, I do the same thing.
It takes about 10 seconds to go get me to my exact load.
While this is happening I can seat a bullet.

I never measured it I believe I can do about 100-130 rounds in about 30 minutes.
 
I am looking at about 50 rounds in 20-25 minutes. Powdered and seated.
Taking my time, double checking ogive every now and then.

Heck it used to take almost double with that damn chargemaster, and wasn't even as accurate.
