Now Brantford...
I have made up my mind on one thing. I'm going to get a Glock for my first auto pistol. Now Gunnar has them at the same price but I just can't decide 17 or 22.
I'm not shooting any IPSC stuff (might in the future though) for now it will be a rage gun so I can practice my handgun skills. I know 9mm is a bit cheaper than .40 but not by much.

So vote away and try to talk me into either caliber.

Cheers

Paul

Both pistols are fine for your first semi.
There will be more of a kick with 40. and might take a little more getting use too.I prefer my G17 cause its cheap to shoot and its easier for newbies at the range to use.
Have you shot both pistols yet?You might want to try both before you buy:)

9mm is more readily available than .40.

As for IPSC... if you just want to have fun, who cares if you shoot 9mm or .40. And it makes no difference if you punch all alpha holes. ;-)

I'd get the 9. I've shot both the 17 and 22, the 22 is quite a bit "snappier" in terms of recoil. It's not a big deal, but the 9 is more fun to shoot. Cheaper ammo doesn't hurt either.

I was (and pretty much still am) in the same boat. My first handgun was a G22 purchased back in 2000. It was flawless.

I sold it recently to get a G17. I only had the G17 a short while and then sold it since I felt like a wuss with a 9mm for whatever reason. I then ordered another G22 on layaway, and shortly after changed that order to a G19 after reading more and more positives on Glock and 9mm in general. When all is done, I very well may sell the G19 and get the G22 again since cannot afford two at once. I change my mind frequently which is quite pathetic.

The only thing I do not like are the stories of feed and similar issues with recently made G22's. I believe it was the Indiana or Illinois State Police (can't recall which off hand now) that switched from G22's to G17's due to problems.

IMO, get the G17 first... and then get the G22 later $$$ permitting ;)

The G17 has the higher resale value, it seems to me.

Plus it has absolutely no foibles such as insufficient case support at 6 o'clock and that jazz.

What about adding a Bar-Sto bbl to the .40? Or would feeding be more of an issue then?

If you are going to shoot 9mm get the G17. The G17 frame was designed for 9mm. If you are going to shoot 40cal.....IMHO get anything but a G22.

I am not a Glock person but I like the G17 a lot. shot several time and you won't disapointed with its performance. I belive G17 is one of the best pistol in the world but just the grip doesn't feel right in my hand.

I would get the 9mm unless you are planning to shoot IPSC. If so, the .40 is the way to go.

I advise the exact opposite: If you are going to shoot IPSC, get the 9mm, otherwise, get whatever you like.

9mm recoil < 40 recoil. No matter what you do.
