Hey All,

So today I checked the status of my application. Joy of joys. Happy dance. My RPAL was approved and the license was issued. Not bad, really. 36 days from date of receipt by the wonderful folks at Miramachi. So, now I'm going shopping. But then I heard some bad news. We're looking at 6 weeks for the CFO to do a transfer from the gun store. Not only that, but they will call your references and your spouse, AGAIN!! f:P: For you folks from Ontario, is that your experience? Every time you buy a handgun, you essentially go through the PAL application process all over again? This is starting to become not worth it.

I just bought a handgun 3 weeks ago. It took 7 days to arrive. My understanding is private transfers take a long time but if u purchase from a dealer it will be registered in a few days...also no phone calls to references

If you buy from a dealer, the wait time is much less. Sometimes just a day or two.
Never heard or them checking refs. and/or spouses, again.

First off CONGRATS!

Dealer transfers are only 1-2 days, now the only thing is the LTATT, depending what club you are part of they may only send them in once a month. I sent mine last month still waiting for it. Dont give up, it well worth it in the end when you get to bring it to the range for the first time. Use the the time to stock up on ammo and get familiar with your range rules :)

Thanks 84'

Heading off to the RA Center Monday night. For the first time I'll be able to shoot as a licensed shooter (assuming they believe me that "it's in the mail"). Won't need a licensed member accompanying me each time I go to the firing line.
