For now anyways, always had somewhat rather dismal scores with the 686 at Sporting Clays, with some ribbing from my semi auto squad mate and research, I picked up this Xcel Sporting, got a local coach that is very well respected around here and he fitted the gun for me. In fairness, everything I did for adjustment on the 686 was bass ackwards to what he did in regards to LOP and such. I don’t like to sell things so the 686 will get the same in a year or so.

I figure with a significant jump in scores, I’m sticking with what works for now and honing in on techniques, currently shooting sustained lead when possible, until I jack something up and scramble with a pull thru. Going to break down for a membership at one of the bigger clubs here as my current range only has a 5 stand setup and a skeet field and not all the stations are always functional.

Been too lazy to get the Brileys oversized charge handle and release on, hopefully this weekend, dang game is pretty addicting and was just at a range that had a Helice setup, will be steering clear until I’m more refined before giving that a go.

Glad to hear you got a gun that fits, it really does make a world off difference. Just started shooting sporting clays because I'm working near towns that have it. And I can't wait to go back home so I can bring back my gun more suited for sporting clays.
Just have my high rib skeet gun bit it better than nothing.
I've seen helicevand I'd love to try it.

And thats a fine looking semi, heard good things about Beretta semi but never shot one. Or any Beretta shotgun lol.
Good luck and happy clay hunting.

Nice blue trim!

I’ve never understood the fascination with the oversized cocking handle on guns like this.
Bolt release… yes. You’ll need that lots.

You c o c k the gun at the start.
Apart from being ready to take the shot, the bolt should remain open.

Managed to remember to take the Briley charging handle & bolt release from the house to the 5th. Charging handle was a piece of cake, the release can wait for now as it is already a oversized affair that is intuitive and easy to find, these little knick knacks are all about aesthetics and as CHC mentioned, looking good while missing, but the missing is getting less every outing.

Got my membership at WSG last week, so pretty happy just need to get home at least twice a month to practice, but even my range at work has a skeet and 5 stand setup. https://wsgclays.com/gallery/

Since you’re at WSG, book a lesson with Steve Liberta. I had two sessions with him at Orvis Sandanona’s Shotgun Classic. You won’t be disappointed.

Thank you for the tip, much appreciated! I see he coaches there and the Greater Houston Sports Club, truly enjoyed that facility also, just a little too much for my blood, especially with work demands outside of Houston. Going to listen to some of his podcasts, Cheers!

Awesome day at Westside, lunches were available free, the water & ice cream cooler was fully stocked and it was sorely needed in these temperatures, my screw up was not getting there till noon due to a prior commitment, too hot to go 10 stations but at least I hit 8 before throwing in the towel.

Watched some videos, where a world champ was praising a very closed stance, very straight and hinged at the waist, the whole straight up and down and hinged at the waist went out the window at the end of the second station back to a modified boxer stance, a little tight at the start of the shot that was what worked well for me. The biggest revelation for myself today was to start low gun and get that dang barrel out of my vision for the first bit, not sure if that right or wrong but was getting repeatable results doing it.

Quartering crossers still steal all my lunch money but one thing at a time, was awesome to have the 10 stations to myself to really settle in and try to solve things without being pushed to move on, nobody else was silly enough to be out after high noon
