my dad came up for a visit and brought along with 2012 M305 Shorty and a Boyd stock he ordered.

we spent the day cleaning the gun and moving it over to the wood stock along with doing some work on a couple other guns.

tomorrow its range day to test out the wood!

oh, i also was getting bored and decided to highlight the imprinted numbers and letters on his gun for him.
nailpolish into the inlay for the win!
i think it really makes it POP!
looks super good on the windage dial.

i may have to do it to mine now.

I keep seeing those beautiful Boyd's M14 stocks and I desperately want one every time but I keep winding up in the same dilemma. Do I buy more ammo to shoot my socom, or do I go for cosmetics?
Someday I may wind up with just enough ammo to feel comfortable enough to just get the d@mn stock.

Was there much work to make it fit or did the barrel, action and trigger group drop right in? Did he pay extra for the wood hand guard or is that what it comes with?

That is one good looking rifle!!! And, you are very lucky you & your father have simular interests and can share the moment!

Well done gentlemen! WELL DONE!

Cheers
Jay

the fore-grip was extra.

there was a little bit of work that had to be done to fit it.
im gonna say maybe 2-3 minutes with the sander.
one one we already knew was gonna be there (the back of the receiver on the right side) and then another spot where the 'arm' thing is.
i took some pics in case someone asks one day about it and i can post where the problem was and the fix we did for it.

its definitely a beautiful stock.
i find it a bit thicker in the hands then the synthetic stock on my 22" but the feel of the wood is just right.
unfortunately im gonna leave my synthetic on mine because i dont want to have to worry about the wood getting wrecked with what all i do with mine, but if i didnt care about the scratches and such i would change mine over in a heart beat.

The wood stock looks great but like yourself I'll be keeping the cheap synthetic one on mine for the same reasons.
I've been thinking about re-finishing it with "bed-liner" paint…..

hahahaha

i was in a auto part store yesterday and i was walking down the paint aisle and i saw the 'super duper heavy duty anti rust thick paint' and thought..... what color should i put on my gun?

we are thinking way to much alike!

That looks great. Makes me want to buy another as might is nicely fitted in a USGI fiberglass stock and I should count myself lucky. I've held a boyds stocked one at a clinic and it feels very nice.

we ended up going out one more time before he left for home and we took both mine and his and compared them.
we would shoot a mag through mine, then his, and rotate.
i must say the wood stock really dampens the kick of the 308!
