I don't know who the dealer is now. - dan

Accuracy Plus in Peterborough have been making an effort to sell Woodleigh but have had difficulties getting them shipped reliably sometimes I know.

A pic of a .358" Woodleigh 310gr SoftNose as in the load referred to above.

I'm told the older ones from the mid nineties lacked the canelure which is a nice touch if it's located right. Woodleigh recommends an impact velocity of between 1800 and 2200 with these. They will sure handle all the really big varmints that show up in your garden patch.:D

That would give a 9.3x62 a run for it's money, but I think I'll stick to the 250gr Speers.

.

If I may budge in front of Mr. Bartell, the Speer manual lists a 270gr (9.3x62)at 2583.
Given a quick calculation of loosing velocity to the equivelent of half the change of bullet weight, the 320gr Tug in a 9,3 should make close to 2395.

I doubt any beast would know the difference. With either caliber the little beasty will feel the imprint of the Mack Bulldog in it's side.

Having said that, those 35 Whelan loads with the 310gr must be loaded right to the nut! The same Speer Manual lists a 250gr 250gr at 2386. That would translate into roughly 2176 for the 310gr. I have no idea how reserved the loads are as I have YET to play with a 35 Whelan.
All the same, it would sure lay the smack, not ulike Andre the Giant.

I think I'm going to have to see if they have some heavy 9,3 soft points. They look like fun and I bet they would regulate to my iron sights quite well.:)

ALL the velocities for the .35 Whelen in the Speer manual are stupid slow. I am easily achieving 2550-2600 fps with the 250 Hornady with below-max(Alliant manual) loads.

Some of the boys over on Accuratereloading are claiming 2200-2300 fps with the 310 Woodleigh's

As much as I like heavy (conventional) bullets, I can't see much advantage of using this bullet over a 250gr in a Whelen. Maybe in 358Norma.

Bullseye Reloading supplies, Mr. Bruno Gross at box 1798, Fairview, Alta. T0H 1L0 lists the Woodleigh bullets in his catalogue. He has all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff. I got my Norma 7x57R brass from him. Some of these big .358 bullets are next on my shopping list.

That was as I suspected, but I figure it is folly to say so without using the actual loads. I know th eloads they listed in my 9,3 were 400fps slower than they listed!:(

I got the 250gr bullets (9,3) coming out at 2722 no problems whatsoever so your 2550-2600 seems very attainable Mauser98.;)

I might have to look at some 250gr Woodleighs for the 8mm. just cuz......

Does anyone have any good, accurate loads worked out for this ? I managed to get a few of these bullets without the cannelure. I am loading for a Ruger M77

Thanks

Norm
