After putting some rather impressive groups with my Vz 58 with iron sights and without my glasses, I'd like to put a scope on my CSA .223 Vz 58. Id like to utilize the side scope mount system and was wondering, if anyone who has this set up, could measure the distance from the base of the dust cover to the center of your optic lens. I've seen multiple pictures of Vz 58s with these side scope mounts and they look so high up. Id like to keep the stock furniture of the gun and use a smaller style scope to keep the mounting low like a 2-7x32 scope or something like that. Even a fixed x4 would be fine. Anyone know what the product number is for the side rail and what ever the thing is called that slides on it that actually mounts the scope? I usually order over the phone and would like the product number.

Just a pictures of what I mean by stock furniture. I like the stock on it now with the longer length of pull. Feels really nice.

Mine is pretty high up, not much you can do about that.

Yea that's not the same side scope mount I saw. That one even looks higher than the one I saw in a picture. If I can't get a cheek weld, I'm not even going to bother getting a scope. That's why I'm asking people to measure the distance so I can measure where the scope would be and test it to see if id need a cheek riser or not.

Here are two examples of side scope mounts I've seen

A) Not really interested in this one as it looks bulky, but also looks as though the scope mounts a lot lower.

B) More interested in this one. It looks like the made it high on purpose so you can take apart your gun with out removing the scope.

I kind of just want to use B) but just with a regular short rifle scope with rings if that's possible. No fancy tactical stuff.

Cant get much lower than that, there is less than 3mm between the mount brackets and the dust cover.

The dust cover replacement does look ok. That scope is sitting higher than it needs to be because of the see through scope rings. If I were to use something like the rings on my 10/22, it would be half as high as that. I also wonder if it will hold zero. I also wonder, if you removed the dust cover to clean the gun, then put it all back together, will the scope still be at zero or at least close to zero. Like the scope on my CZ 550, it always goes back into the same spot every time. They made it that way. Because of that, the scope is always at zero no mater how many times I take the scope off and back on.

Anyone have any shooting experience with a scoped Vz 58? Is it worth going though the trouble of put a scope on it because I've nailed at best, without my glasses, a 63mm (2.5") 5 shot group with the standard irons and get consistent 76 - 102mm (3" - 4") 10 shot groups with it. Was wondering if the scope would improve that.

Dust cover if removed for cleaning will hold zero, I had the see through scope mounts installed so I could use my micro red dot on front handguard

Yes its worth the trouble if you have problems at 100 yards with irons (like me). Not too sure about the dust cover solution, lots of movement on removable pieces on a rifle when firing. My side mount is fine with some light locktite water sealant on the screws, but even with that after 600 rounds the screws start to loosen up.
